In 1803, Jabez Brattle founded an agricultural college in what is now Manchester with his own money and land given to him by English settlers as part of their settlement process. This institution became known as Dartmouth College which still exists today as one of America's most prestigious universities. During the 19th century there were several large economic changes that took place within Concord due to new transportation technologies like railroads and automobiles which made goods available more cheaply to consumers all across America. These advances also led to new jobs for locals such as engineers, farmers, mechanics and salespeople; all of whom helped contribute to the growth of Concord during this time period. The population was 3,733 at the 2010 census. Concord is part of the Manchester-Keene-Newmarket micropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Concord was Peter Clausen who arrived in 1795. In 1801, John Fenton bought 100 acres (40 hectares) of land from Nicholas Westcott for $5 per acre. The Fenton family continued to live in Concord until 1825 when they sold their land to Gideon Granger. In 1827, Reverend Ezra Stiles founded the Congregational Church in Concord which served as the local parish church from then until 1861 when it merged with nearby Manchester’s Episcopal Church to form one large congregation under one pastor. In 1865, two men named Hatch and Hammond came to Concord from North Adams, MA and purchased 5 additional acres (2 hectares) adjacent to what would become known as Hatch Plantation because it had beenowned by Nathaniel Hatch since 1685. They began developing this land into a cotton plantation named after them that became known as "Hatch's Grove." By 1870, they had converted all of their fields into cotton plantations and employed over 1,000 workers including 200 women and girls who worked on his plantations out of their homes or schools throughout the year. During World War II there were many military installations around Concord including radar sites at RAF Horsham and US Air Force Station Conley Airfield which were used for bombing raids against Japan during that time period; these locations are now gone but some remnants remain such as an old airframe graveyard near RAF Horsham that still has evidence left behind from those bombings; another reminder of Concord's wartime role can be seen at US Air Force Station Conley where a large metal hangar remains standing today that housed personnel during World War II; this hangar also bears markings from that time period which include "base closed Oct 1945" Today's economy in Concord revolves around three main areas: agriculture due mainly to its fertile soils which produce crops such as corn, soybeans and wheat; manufacturing based mostly around textiles although there are now several companies presence here including Macy's Department Store/Neiman Marcus flagship store as well as several other businesses totaling over 100 employees within just five blocks downtown; tourism with its numerous attractions located right outside town limits such as mount Rushmore National Monument & Museum close by along with Quaker Hill State Park & quarry which offer great views acrossNH alone! Today most people associate themselves with either one or two specific occupations - typically one related to agriculture or manufacturing while 2ndarily others may work in service industries such as health care or retail commerce . However despite these various occupational choices most residents continue quite similar due largely to strong social networks formed through community events & activities
