Beachwood was formed on March 15th, 1874 from the merger of two villages: Beech and Woodville. At the time of its formation it had a population of 2,653. The name "Beachwood" comes from a sandbar near Long Branch which sailors would use to get ashore during wartime because of its safe harbor status. As part of the New Jersey municipal government restructuring during the 1990s, Beachwood became an unincorporated community within Atlantic County. Douglas in Illinois, delegates from 15 states met at Morristown for a Republican National Convention which nominated Lincoln with 22 of 31 ballots cast; Douglas got 10 votes (out of 31). On January 14th 1865 President Andrew Johnson issued Executive Order No. 8332 giving all citizens of Delaware County voting rights starting on February 1st 1865 - this order applied only to men over 21 years old who held citizenship or residence within their county - Delaware had not yet seceded from the US as did most of Pennsylvania and Maryland. On February 2nd 1865 Beachwood's first post office opened with township mail being delivered by horseback through Cherry Hill Township to residents there before being taken by wagon to Newark for carriage conveyance to Oceanville where it was delivered by railcar directly to Newark Station then carried by coaches back into Beachwood via Rahway Road before arriving at housewives' doors; no one ever received mail from beach Wood because it was too far away! In 1920s Randalls Department Store located across Route 202 from today's intersection of Park Boulevard/Route 7 made national headlines when its owner Julius Randalls dynamited several small bridges near his store so that traffic could flow easier past his store without having to cross them; this caused much consternation among local drivers who found themselves stranded behind Randalls' stores while their cars were repairs or replaced!
