Ford AFB hosted RAF Liberator aircraft while Lido Beach hosted USAAF Catalina Islanders flying photographic missions ..both airfields eventually closed during hostilities After World War II ended most military functions at Fort Lee were transferred back to civilian hands including developing Ofcom's Wireless Telegraphy Service here starting Apr 1945..later merged into BBC Radio London Today Ft Lee sits serenely within boundaries once again being home to some wonderful people who have all contributed so much so far (& still going!)to make this place special!!
