Keansburg is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,577 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Keansburg were Dutchmen in 1624 and Dutch Captain Hendrick Vlissingen on his trip from Amsterdam to look for a place to winter over. In 1714, Samuel Cooper built a cabin on the banks of the Hackensack River and called it "Keansburgh." By 1802, Keansburgh had a store and post office. In 1827, John Leland erected a three-story house in what is now the town square. In 1838, Daniel Coe purchased land at Keansboro Heights along with other farmers near Newark court house for $10 per acre (or $ ). He built two houses there: one known as "Coe's Cabin" and another known as "The Coffee House". The first school in Keansburg was opened in 1840 by Reverend Ezra Stroud under teacher instruction from Driggs College in nearby Uniontown. A Presbyterian church was also established soon afterwards; this building still stands today across from the recreation center which replaced it after fire destroyed most of its structure several years ago. In 1850, steamboats began running between Camden and New York City via Lake Hopatcong; so when passenger vessels arrived at Keansboro Heights they could disembark their passengers on both sides of the lake for transport downriver to Camden or vice versa. On July 1st 1865 local resident James Fenton authorized erection of an electric light system that would serve all of Middlesex County includingKeansborough until 1902 when it became part of Newark city limits. In 1908, Mayor John Fenton renamedKean'sborough after General George Washington because he felt that it was important for all inhabitants ofKean'sborough to have a common name for themselves (something which did not exist except for a few scattered cases throughout Monmouth County). At this time keanstown was also one of only a few municipalities inNewJersey without any public library service; however tensions between citizens and their municipal government began to mount shortly thereafter - culminating with Mayor Fenton's resignation less than two years later following widespread public criticism following an audit which found widespread corruption withinthe municipality administration). During World War II,Keansburg played an important role as both a military base used by both American and British troops during the war effort and as housing for soldiers on leave while they waited for their units or homes back home to be rebuilt or completed. In 1945, when troop concentrations shifted from Europe into North America due to Allied victory at World War II’s end,Kean’sbourgh experienced yet another growth spurt – topping 10,000 residents by 1950! Unfortunately though this growth trend would continue until well into the 21st century; due largely to increasingly expensive real estate prices and changes in commuting patternskeanbourgh eventually reach its present high population count thanks primarily to immigration (mainly from Europe) which has ledto dashed hopes for continuing stability within the community since 2001 despite significant investment from local businesses totaling nearly $100 millionSince then however muchhas changed with regards both housing prices (£30m)and job opportunities (£10m)in lightof overall economic decline throughout much OFNewJersey leading many locals here seeking stability & solace insteadof rapid change
