Pine Hill is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,519 at the 2010 census. Pine Hill is located on the tip of Long Branch peninsula and shares borders with Academy Township to the east and Northumberland Township to the north. The community was founded in 1782 as a result of an agreement between George Washington and John Malcolm, one of his commanders during the Continental Army's attempt to gain control of New York City. The two men agreed that if Washington could take over British-controlled Long Branch Peninsula then Malcom could lay claim to it as well. As a result, pine trees were transplanted from Nova Scotia into what is now Pine Hill for the purpose of creating a border marker between Washington's new land holdings and those of Malcolm. Pine Hill was originally named "Salt Mill" after William Saltman (1800-1864), who operated a salt mill here from 1814 until his death in 1864. In 1824, JamesONeill purchased the mill from Saltman's heirs and renamed it "New Hope". He built several additional homes here before his death in 1830. His son JohnONeill continued operations until he sold it to Henry Ford in 1903. At first known as Dearborn Street Plantation, Ford renamed it Highland Park after nearby Highland Heights which had been renamed by JamesonNeeill in honor of his father-in-law General Nelson Alexander (1763-1837). In 1916,pinehill became part of New Jerseyan Township when that township was formed from parts of Middlesex County including Academy Township and Northumberland Township adjoining Pine Hill on its eastern side. However, due to boundary changes following World War II both Academy Township and Northumberland Township were abolished along with Pine Hill itself within Middlesex County again when this county was created on May 14th, 1950 having previously been part of Union County .

Pine Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. Pine Hill is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Area. The CDP was created by the New Jersey Department of Transportation in 1979 as part of the pine hill section of northern Sussex County. The name derives from a small tree that once grew near what is now Route 9 and Old Bridge Road. The community was first developed primarily for commuters who would walk or bike to work. In 1984, NJ Transit began providing daily bus service to Pine Hill from Newark Penn Station via Readington Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. In 1990, NJ Transit also began operating express buses to and from neighboring Union Township on Routes 94 and 732 which connect with both Trenton and Philadelphia International Airport. These routes are now known as the "Pine Hill Express". Today, Pine Hill remains an agricultural area with cornfields, soybeans, cotton fields and other crops being grown throughout its entirety; however, it has seen recent development in areas such as light industrialization with several new businesses opening up in recent years including a pet store and supermarket as well as a medical clinic serving residents in the surrounding villages of Belleville Park and Clifton Park which are adjacent to Pine Hill proper but not within its boundaries

Pine Hill was a small village in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It was located on the north side of Pine Hill Lake. The population was 1,000 at the 2010 census. The village formed from part of the township of Pine Hill (renamed West Orange Township in 1898), which was created by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 14, 1798. The Act granted lands to various settlers and named them after British General Sir John Johnson's estate in Virginia – Johnson's Bayou – and forpine hill near that estate. The first settler to arrive in Pine Hill was John Dolan, who arrived on October 12, 1798. Dolan built a house on what is now Lansdowne Road and named it "Pine Hill". He also founded a school there and later enlarged it into a public school that served both hisown village as well as neighboring West Orange Township. In 1810, Dolan donated land to form what is now called Green Lane Cemetery; that parcel included what is now Pinehill Village Hall and several other structures dating back to the early 1800s. ) In 1814-15, George Washington Parke gave $5 to purchase five lots adjoining Jameson’s Tavern located at Broadwalk where he had been living since 1792 for rent from Nicholas Nicholasson (the father of then-Governor Woodbury Parke). These premises became known as “Washington’s Promenade” or “Parke’s Row” because they were adjacent to Jameson’s tavern where George Washington dined with members of his family during his visits to Newark during the years leading up until his death in 1799.) At this time Parke also rented out stables adjoining Jameson’s Tavern which became known as “White Horse Inn/Eaton House Place/Broughton House Place/Mansfield Place/Fletcher Place/Green Lane Place/Newark Avenue/. . . these parcels became known as: White Horse Inn(Parke), Eaton House(Parke), Broughton House(Harrison), Mansfield House(Negro), Fletcherplace(Fletcher), Green Lane place(Wright).
