Point Pleasant is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Point Pleasant is located on the Delaware River and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1785 by Captain John Smith as an outpost on the east bank of the Delaware River opposite what is now Philadelphia. The first settler in Point Pleasant was John Stevens who arrived in 1786. Stevens built a log cabin and named it "Stevens's Tavern" after himself and his brother-in-law Nicholas Stevens. In 1801, Captain Edward Winslow established a claim to what is now Point Pleasant Township from John Stevens and others with Intent to Encroach upon their rights thereto; this claim has been held by Winslow ever since. In 1822, when Philadelphia annexed Sussex County, Point Pleasant became part ofPhiladelphia along with West Chester and Easton. The point where the river intersects Pennsylvania Avenue still remains bearable for small boats because of its low elevation (although there are no buildings remaining above water level). In 1831, Samuel Morse foundedlinotype printing works on Market Street which soon became world famous for its presses that produced newspapers such as "The Daily Gazette." ThisPrinting House still stands today and produces high quality paper products including high-quality newspapers like "The Star-Ledger". For many years until about 1900 all papers were printed on wooden boards which had to be cut down each morning before delivery so that they could be delivered fresh that day! When electric printing began becoming popular printers would switch over to using electricity instead of wood so that they didn't have to deliver any old boards each day! Paper production ceased at Morse's Print House around 1915 but continued up until about 1970 when it finally stopped completely due to advances in electronic printing technology! Today you can still find some remnants of Morse's Printing House including parts of the roof which used to hang down onto Pennsylvania Ave., one large door which used to open into a large room inside which housed several machines (the machine shop), three small doors leading out onto the street (one leading back into Samuel Morse's house next door) and two windows from where prints were once seen being printed
