Union City is a city in New Jersey, United States. The population was 33,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Newark-bound Metropolitan Statistical Area. Union City was founded on July 4, 1824 by General Philip Kearny and his men as a military outpost between Fort George and Princeton. The first post office opened in 1830. Union City experienced growth from its early days as a frontier town with few amenities to its current size and prominence within New Jersey due to its location on the Lower Delaware River between Camden and Newark (then called Northampton). In 1849, Union City became the capital of New Jersey after Trenton was burned down by troops belonging to General James Shields during the American Civil War. During World War II, several companies of soldiers were stationed in Union City before being deployed to various points around America. One such company was 3rd Battalion, 137th Infantry Regiment (#9) which served in Europe from 1944 until 1945; it is still present today as the "3rd Battalion 137th Infantry Regiment – NJ" unit of the 9th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) based at Joint Base McGuire - HarrisburgMAP-4 in Pennsylvania. In 1970s and 1980s Union City experienced significant redevelopment with many high-profile projects including renovation or new construction of civic buildings such as Citizens Bank Stadium (now known as PNC Park), Walnut Street Bridge over Susquehanna River (now renamed Boulevard), Asbury Park Racetrack Race Course & Casino Resort, Union Depot Train Station/Old Arsenal Train Shop & Museum and more The citywidequsition plan for downtown resulted in demolition or relocation of many historic buildings including most notably Citizens Bank Stadium which reopened in 2013 under revised name PNC Park after a $762 million renovation that included new decks overlooking both rivers while also adding an outdoor amphitheater capable seating for up to 30,000 people Today Union City remains one of New Jersey's most vibrant communities with easy access to cultural attractions like Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk amusement park and PECOTA Aquarium while also boasting some excellent restaurants options like Joe's Pizza Garden & Brewery or Santana Row Café & Bakery

Union City (New Jersey) was a small, unincorporated community located in Union County, New Jersey. It was once the home of some of the United States' early fur traders and settlers. The community formed in 1824 when the citizens of Morristown petitioned for incorporation as a town. In 1830, Union City annexed the village of Northumberland which had been situated on its eastern border. The post office at Union City was established on April 16, 1825, and remained in operation until it closed on December 14, 1912. When America's first census was taken in 1800, Union City consisted only of about 100 families living within its present boundaries. By 1850, however, there were more than 2,000 people residing in Union City and adjacent villages. In 1835-36 US Army General Anthony Wayne traveled through New Jersey to survey routes for an railroad connecting Philadelphia with New York; he based his recommendations upon his findings at Morristown and Bethlehem Junction. On October 15th1836 US Senator Charles Sumner had introduced a bill authorizing $10 million for gauge rails throughout the United States; this measure became law on November 3rd1836 and led to construction of the first section of track from Trenton to Camden via Princeton Junction - known as "the Great Northern Road". On February 6th1839 local merchant Jabez Bowen erected a sign reading "Jabez Bowen's Store - Open all Day" at what is now Main Street corner Second Avenue in front of the former East German School building (now known as Park Place). This store continued to be open until shortly before it burned down on May 10th1939 during reconstruction work following damage caused by Superstorm Sandy . In total, about 25 businesses operated out of Jabez Bowen’s Store during that time period including several grocery stores which developed into large chain stores such as Safeway and Department Stores like Macy’s etc., but most importantly it served as an physical nexus between locals and their regional commerce extending northward from Newark along Route 1A through Elizabethtown Landing into Cream Township into Paterson township......... By 1885 there were over 100 businesses operating out of downtownUnion City with services ranging from general store operations such as groceries/poultry/canned goods/toothpaste/groceries/etc., up to hotel/motels services such as room service etc.... A number of these early commercial establishments survive today still providing essential commercial economic infrastructure within downtownUnion City....... Most interestingly though are the many vacant storefronts which have experienced little change other than new occupants taking up residence therein over time....... Many examples can be found near Third Avenue between Market Street and First Avenue ......Many Bedford-Stuyvesant residents also migrated to UnionCity beginning around 1900 ...........
