In 1998, improvements were made to nearby Princeton University Park which opened as Giants Stadium and hosts all types of events including NCAA football games as well as concerts and other major events throughout the year.
Ventnor City is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden County metropolitan area. The Ventnor Township portion of Ventnor City was established on November 9, 1798 as part of Bergen County by an act of the New Jersey Legislature under the terms of the Organic Act and became a municipality on April 14, 1834. The township was abolished on February 26, 1951 when it merged with what is now Camden County to form the new borough. The first settler in Ventnor City was George Hatcher who arrived in 1799 and laid out a small farm around 1800 near present-day Maplewood Avenue and Ulysses Road. In 1802, Daniel Fenton purchased land from Hatcher and erected a cabin called "Fenton's Camp". A year later he built a larger cabin which served as his home until his death in 1807. His widow married Samuel Greenough who also founded Greenough & Company merchant shipping company in Ventnor City (now known as National Shipping Corporation). In 1809, John Dickinson moved from Fordham Manor to purchase 640 acres (248 hectares) east of where Hatcher had settled and laid out what would become Ventnor City proper on May 11 that year. He named it after himself – John Dickinson's Bay or “the Headwaters” – because he saw no other contender for the title given that Morristown Creek ran all along his boundary line. TheDickinson family remained majority owners through much of their contact with Newark before selling their holdings back to Mr. Dickinson following his death in 1830 at age 80 years old. From this point forward many people bore variations including Dickensonites (1830-1910), Dickinsonites (1910-present), Dickensonians (1910-present), etc., but they ultimately descended from one man who started things all over again: John Dickinson himself! Ventnor City is a small city in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,853 as of the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Passaic River and is considered to be part of the Newark-Jersey City metropolitan area. Ventnor City has been inhabited by Native Americans for centuries and was once part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Ventnor City were French Huguenots who built a trading post here in 1686. In 1814, James Kapp and his family founded Kapp's Landing on the east bank of the Passaic River which became one of the early centers for cotton production in America. The community name was derived from John Ventnor, an Englishman who had settled here in 1724 along with his brother Nicholas Kapp. In 1847, Samuel Prentice bought land at what is today Main Street and Easton Avenue and established Prentice's Landing which became one of the most important industrial sites in American history because it manufactured locomotives and other transportation equipment until its closure in 1984. In 1860, John Hulton erected a small brick building at what is now West Side Boulevard to serve as a meeting hall for local farmers' associations that had formed around this time. This building would become known as "The House on Hudson". After years of growth (eventually reaching its peak population size between 1900-1920), ventnor city declined during World War II due to strategic bombing raids conducted by Manhattan Air Force Base (MANB) over southern New Jersey; however, it began slowly recovering after 1945 when manufacturing resumed within reach again thanks to new interstate highway construction not far from town center; however, suburbanization quickly took hold thereafter as well resulting in less job opportunity for locals amidst increasingly high housing prices within walking distance only of downtown; despite efforts by various civic groups over recent decades to revitalize downtown through programming such as art exhibitions/events/public forum etc., little progress has been made since 2006 when plans were announced for demolition/replacement/updates to both existing buildings & current zoning specifically targeting lofts & condos instead; currently there exists very limited signage or public awareness about any interior or exterior renovation projects taking place inside or outside town limits let alone their potential impacts on surrounding neighborhoods
On May 10, 1744, the first settlements in what is now Ventnor City were founded. The area was then known as "New Amsterdam" and was part of New York. On July 16, 1764, the town was renamed Ventnor City after Lord Ventnor who donated land to the town. In 1814, theuble Voorhees became Mayor of Ventnor City and served for four terms. In 1828, John Fenton became Mayor and served for two terms. In 1875, Judge Augustus Bancroft purchased 640 acres of land adjacent to present-day Ventnor City from the Delaware River Company for $50,000. TheJudge used this land to build a new courthouse which opened in 1876. On October 14th of that year,ventnor city burned down due to incendiary arson by a group of men led by George Washington Woodruff who believed it was an act of God intended to punish America's enemies
