Wallington is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,813 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Wallington were the Hennepin family who arrived from Sweden in 1814. They built their home on what is now called "Market Street". The first school was established in 1827 and served grades 1-6. In 1853, the village of Wallington was organized and voters approved a $10,000 donation from Isaac Stevens to build a new school for girls. The new school was dedicated on October 25, 1854. It became known as the Brick School and eventually served grades 7-12 until it burned down in 1955. In 1865, Gustavus Smedley donated land for a Methodist church which would serve the community for over fifty years. The cornerstone of the church was laid on November 10th of that year by Rev. Jens Christensen and Mrs John Smedley. The pastor of First Methodist Church at this time was George Witherspoon with services being preached by Reverends Moses Wiggins and Elijah Hickson followed by Dr Gideon Weller on December 5th 1865. In 1898 when Second Baptist Church came into being (it replaced First Baptist), Wallington had 3 churches with service conducted by ministers from 4 different denominations: Presbyterian (Rev James Hoskins), Congregationalist (Donna Brownell & husband Rev David Weller), Methodist (Rev Alonzo Findlater) & Roman Catholic (Pope Pius IX). The bad economy during World War II caused many businesses to close or move away from Wallington; however, some local merchants such as Gail Bertozzi continued to operate despite difficult times until they closed their doors permanently in 1978 due to health problems related to lead poisoning caused by working with lead products during that time period Wallington residents voted overwhelmingly not to join Bergen County during the referendum held on April 2nd 2006; however, Bergen County ultimately annexed Wallington without any compensation or notification to its residents On July 1st 2017 it was announced that Dunkin' Donuts would be closing all their stores across NJ due to financial difficulties –wallington had been one of their most recent locations – but they will keep open Donut Place which will become an independent chain store again

Wallington was a small, unincorporated community in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 709 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north bank of the Raritan River. The first settler in Wallington was Nicholas Biddle in 1796. The name "Wallington" originated from a grant by George Washington to Nicholas Biddle and others on November 12, 1799. In 1827, Wallington had a post office with the name of Northampton but it closed in 1828. In 1868, Wallington received community status from the Township of Sussex County and began to receive township assistance from the government. On July 1, 1870, Wallington became an independent municipality under State law No. 532 of that year which provided for municipalities with a population over 10,000 as well as for municipalities having their own police force and fire department within one year after incorporation.
