The first recorded use of glasses in Wanaque was by a local doctor, Dr. John Purdy, who used them to see medicine cases in his office. By 1907, there were two opticians in Wanaque - Mrs. Anna Taft and Mr. Edward Long - and they were both successful business owners. In 1916, Drs. Lewis Kapp and Julius Rosenwald bought the business from Mrs. Taft and continued to operate it until their death in 1942. During World War II, the town was bombed by Japanese bombers and several businesses were destroyed; however, none of these lost their businesses because they used optical accessories during wartime as part of their business operations. After the war ended, many new opticians opened up throughout New Jersey; however, Mrs. Anna Taft's business still operated until it closed in 1987 due to failing health). From its beginning as an Indian trading post on the Passaic River near where Wanaque is now located, glass making has been a central part of this small town’s economy (and culture). Glassblowers started working at various locations around Passaic County early on (including various Native American encampments), but it wasn’t until 1835 when Major General George Washington granted land along the river for glassmaking purposes – ensuring that residents could produce high-quality window panes without having to leave their homes or go into exile! Because glassmaking requires very sweaty labor – something that didn’t exist back then – major companies like Jameson began sponsoring athletes for physical tests so they could measure how well they can handle heat production! In 1884–85 Sir Humphrey Davy conducted an experiment with colored lights which demonstrated how light works (and whether colors are actually perceived through our eyes!). This experiment helped lead to development of photography by taking photos with different lenses using different shutter speeds! In 1893 Reverend Saperstein founded First Baptist Church in Wanaque with donations from Lord John Ruskin (the founder of modern art!), serving as its first pastor; he also donated land for a school district which would later be named after him! Reverend Saperstein died suddenly before he could finish building his church so his son Bernard took over construction duties beginning on October 17th 1893 – just one week shy of his 29th birthday!!! Despite being amidst such great competition among religious leaders at the time (!), Bernard's work eventually became recognized as true architecture within months due to public outcry following an article published in The Evening Post!!! This event marked not only milestone within Protestantism but alsolaunched Philadelphia as America’s leading city center!! Wanaque is a borough in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 6,412 at the 2010 census. Wanaque is located east of Trenton and north of Camden. The first European settlers in what is now Wanaque were Dutch colonists who established a trading post there in 1660. In 1701, the French built Fort Nassau on an island near modern-day Monmouth Junction to protect their interests in the area during the War for Independence. After independence was won and America became a country, the British evacuated Fort Nassau and moved it to Weehawken. In 1764, Englishman George Washington visited Wanaque and founded what would become known as Mount Vernon Estate due to its commanding view of Princeton University from his home there. In 1822, Wanaque became part of Mercer County when it was formed from portions of Middlesex Township (now North Brunswick). It remained an unincorporated township until 1940 when it became a borough pursuant to an act by then-Governor Jock Mahoney. As a borough, Wanaque has control over its own government and police force; however, county services are still provided by the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office based in Trenton. The Borough Council meets monthly with business taking place at various locations within the borough including: City Hall; Fire Station No 2; Borough Market; Central Library; South High School; and Greenway Gardens which provide parkland for residents to use as they please without having to worry about eminent domain or taxation issues that could arise out of this type of governing body structure. According to Census data obtained from 2010 through 2011, racial makeup of Wanaque was 94% White (non-Hispanic), 1% African American, 0% Native American/Alaskan Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, 2% Asian/Pacific Islander (of any race), 3% Hispanic or Latino (of any race), and 1% two or more races combined. Hispanics make up 9%, while Asians make up 5%. Most residents speak English as their primary language although Spanish also exists among some individuals living here illegally due to recent waves of migration from Mexico into Northeastern U S . Additionally Polish also exists among some immigrants who have arrived since 2000 according to Census data

On Feb. 7, 1838, it merged with neighboring South Amboy to form the new borough of Wanaque. At its creation, Wanaque had a population of 908 residents and included parts of both Borough Park and East Brunswick; however, these boundaries would change over time as portions of South Amboy were annexed to East Brunswick while part ofBrooklyn Township became part of West Egg. In 1926 the entire borough was reincorporated as Wanaque Township with a population size approaching 20000; however this would be cut off from full civic participation until 1975 when it became an effective municipal township again with a resident population over 10000. In 1814-15 James Kapp established what is now known as Kapp's Landing on Long Island Sound north of where today's Borough Park stands - his landing enabled then-new Yorkers to get their sea legs before they landed permanently in New York City on the Great Lakes via ferries from Canada or elsewhere and started their long journey upriver towards Manhattan - during that year only 2% of all arrivals were Scotsmen Kapp sold his land to Nicholas de posse Bemis in 1821 for $8000 Bemis also developed other land holdings around present day Hackensack and Morris Heights into what are now large sections of NJ's Paramus area - these areas were all eventually combined back into Borough Park following its incorporation into West Egg during World War II . Wanaque was founded in 1755 by the Conestoga Indians. The town became a part of New Jersey in 1798. In 1814, Wanaque was burned by the British during the War of 1812.
