Westfield is a town in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,455 at the 2010 census. Westfield is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Westfield" originated from when English farmers first visited the area in 1670. The original Westfields were located on both sides of the Hackensack River and stretched from the present-day towns of East Rutherford and Paramus to Asbury Park on the east bank of the river. In 1795, John Nicholson became one of three commissioners appointed by Governor Thomas Jefferson to purchase land for a new township in what is now Essex County. Nicholson's commission included land on which he erected a home, now known as Nicholson's Gardens. In 1814, Westfield Township was formed from parts of two other municipalities: Rahway (founded in 1739) and Bound Brook (founded in 1807). In 1868, portions of Rahway Township were annexed into Westfield Township; while Bound Brook Township was added to Westfield Township south of Skillman Avenue in 1926. When Rahway and Bound Brook were combined into one municipality again in 1968, it became known asRahway & Bound Brook Borough. On December 14, 2001, South Orange Township merger criteria were met and all residents within South Orange Township - including those living within Rahway &Bound Brook Borough - became full members of South Orange Municipal Council effective January 1st 2002 On November 3rd 2009 President George W Bush announced that he would be visiting Newark during his lame duck presidency so he could tour some important sites related to American manufacturing including General Motors Assembly Plant and Carrier Corp air cargo facility which are located just outside Newark Liberty International Airport

The town was named for General George Washington Westfeldt who fought with distinction during the American Revolution. The community rapidly grew after its incorporation as a village in 1838. By 1860, it had become a city with a population of 12,000 people and rapidly became an industrial center due to its location on the Delaware River between Philadelphia and Trenton. During World War II (1939-1945), many industries were set up here including shipbuilding and aircraft manufacturing; however these have all since passed away or been discontinued as newer technologies have taken their place such as digital printing technology. One of these defunct industries is that of sheet metalmithing which still takes place today at Sheet Metalworkers Local 910 within Westfield City Hall using old techniques from before World War II such as hand welding wire onto shaped pipes called “bricks” or “pipes” while also using modern machines like CNC mills to produce high quality finished products quickly without having to go through traditional production lines like those used centuries ago!

In 1837, during the American Civil War, General Nathan Bedford Forrest built a fortified plantation known as Forrest's Station near today'sParamus Road and Summit Avenue within what would later be East Rutherford. The Confederate forces burned down much of Forrest's plantation but left his rifle range standing which became one of New Jersey's most popular tourist attractions. The original ZIP code for Westfield was 07652; it was changed to 07092 in 1995 when New York City annexed Westchester County into its metropolitan area. Prior to that it was 7016. As time passed zip codes tended to stay pretty consistent across different areas within NJ so there isn't much change with respect to them since then unfortunately
