The history of the AR15 upper receiver in Las Cruces, New Mexico dates back to 1975. That year, a group of individuals from the town decided to start a Gunsmithing and Rifle Training School in order to provide training for new gun owners. The school was initially called the “Las Cruces Rifle and Pistol Academy” and operated out of a small storefront on Main Street. Classes were taught by local military veterans and NRA instructors. In 1984, the school moved to its current location on Seventh Street in downtown Las Cruces. At that time, it became known as “New Mexico’s Outstanding Arms Training Center” and continued to offer courses and train future gun owners until 2000. In that year, the center was purchased by businessman Donnie Olson who renamed it the “Donnie Olson Ar15 Upper Receiver School & Range”.
