On February 22nd 1861, Abraham Lincoln was born in nearby Elmira while living at home with his father John Todd Lincoln and mother Mary Todd Lincoln. His parents had emigrated from England several years earlier to escape religious persecution by King George III's government. As president of America's first new country—New York State—Lincoln helped provide financial stability for what would become one of its most important cities during its early years: Johnson City bustled with activity as merchants traded goods across state lines and travelers journeyed through its well-maintained dirt roads to see Appalachian Mountains beyond Bloomsbury Valley near modern day Scranton/Wilkes-Barre PA just 20 miles away! As America entered World War II more than two million people were registered with Selective Service programs… many serving in munitions production plants like those found around northeastern Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal fields where lead and other heavy metals were used extensively by industry during both world wars….and children working along scores of mills that produced paper products for magazines such as Life magazine or Forrester’s Weekly….. By 1945 many jobs had been lost or converted to military production but some 400 families still lived happily alongside their thousands of workers who made “ invaluable contributions not only to war efforts but also throughout peacetime”…. Today much has changed since then including significant job growth in services sector…..But if you look down Main Street today you can still find traces – quite literally –of hard work gone back into old mill hands over 40 years ago!

Although small compared to other towns in New York State at this time, Morristown continued to grow steadily until it reached its peak as an agricultural hub during the mid 19th century when heavy production from nearby counties helped support mass migration from rural areas throughout Upstate New York into urban centers such as Buffalo and Newark NJ during this period known as "the great industrial revolution".
