There were 3,853 households out OF which 34% had children under age 18 living with them., 56% were married couples living together,, 11% had a female householder with no husband present,, 6%% had a male householder with no wife present.,and 36%%were non-families.[14][15][/16][/17][/18][/19][/20].

It lies on the southern border of Buffalo, and is bordered by Seneca to the east and Livingston to the north. The first people who lived here were Algonquian-speaking Shawnee. They were displaced by European settlers from what is now Ontario in 1673. The first settler here was Nicholas Cushman, who arrived about 1712. He named his land "Ontario". In 1764, Drury bought land from Nicholas Cushman and built a cabin here. In 1775, George Washington's army came through this area during their victorious campaign against Great Britain; General James Wilson encampment was located near Oneida today. After America became a country, many farmers moved into this area because of its fertile soil and lack of competition from other places in New York State. In 1814, Oneida had 3 churches: one Congregational (founded by Reverend John Woolridge), one Presbyterian (founded by Revs Samuel Morse and David Ritchie), and one Methodist (founded by Mr John Wesley). A school began operations in 1815 but closed due to low enrollment; it reopened under new leadership two years later when Reverend Amos Eaton became headmaster with funding from local contributions . When township boundaries were redrawn following Orange County's incorporation into Erie County in 1825, Oneida lost its western boundary as well as much of its population because it lay within territory belonging to Buffalo Township which was merged into that county
