The first settler to come to this area was John Smith who arrived in 1745. He built the first house on what is now Main Street in what is now Albemarle County. In 1749 Captain William Byrd landed his shipwrecked party at what is today Point Pleasant Beach and discovered coal there which led to his discovery of coal mines two years later by Colonel John Goodloe Jr.. In 1805 Colonel Nathaniel Macon bought land from Thomas Meek for $1 per acre (which would be about $125 million today). This land would become known as Macon's Mill because it produced flour for export. A post office was established at Albeemi in 1815 but never opened due to lack of mail carrier service between here and Charlotte; however, letters were sent using wagons back then! In 1827 the first train arrived here with passengers going back and forth between Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham; this made Albeemi one of the most popular places to visit during that time! In 1840 James Cushing began working on building a mill complex that would eventually become known as Cushing Mills; this project cost him over $2 million dollars which helped make Albeemi one of America’s leading industrial towns during that time period! In 1951 Dr. Edwin Pogue started work on creating UNC (North Carolina Universal College) here which led to many jobs throughout town including those at Cushing Mills! Today much of what once constituted downtown Albemarle has been replaced by shopping malls or homesites – however some notable parts include the county courthouse complex (built 1871), main street restaurant “Plymouth Tavern” (opened 1907), local history museum “Moses Brown House” (1899), fire department headquarters located next door to SUBWAY also housing ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES branch offices (1968), Baptist church “First Baptist Church” built 1865, library/ archives building constructed 1912-1913) – all while maintaining much of their original architecture!
