Asheboro is a town in Ashe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,045 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ashe County. Asheboro is located on the Yadkin River and includes parts of the cities of Winston-Salem and Greensboro. The first people to live in what is now Asheboro arrived from Virginia in 1778. They were led by General James Grant and his brother John Grant. General George Washington visited Asheboro on December 9, 1778, when he was campaigning against Lord Cornwallis's forces near Hillsborough County, North Carolina. The town site was chosen by commissioners from Raleigh as their temporary capital following Wilkes' Block House fire on November 18, 1779 which destroyed much of that city center. On January 12, 1781, restaurants and taverns opened in downtown Asheboro for military officers quartered there during the American Revolution. In 1819–20 a courthouse was built at what is now Main Street and First Avenue West with brick fronts and terra cotta quoins trimmed with stone coping around Ionic columns supporting an entablature crowned by a conical dome). This courthouse served as the nucleus for many later buildings including UNC's Durham campus (1829), local government buildings (1872), county courthouse (1907) – still standing today – and most notably the present day courthouse complex which includes three blocks north of Main Street between First Avenue West and Second Avenue West across from Pritchett Park Elementary School (now part of USF/Carolina State University). In 1907 local postmaster Jno Wills erected a large redbrick structuredate unknown but likely designed by Auguste Rodin that included a two story rotunda with an elaborate green balustrade above it called "The Plaque". It remains one of Asheville's most important civic landmarks to this day Pritchett Park Elementary School located just east of Main Street between First Avenue Westand Second AveWest has been home to students in grades prekindergarten through eighth grade since 1902 when school started there as part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools public education district Asheboro experienced its heyday during World War II as one of the largest military towns in America due to its proximity to munitions factories along Interstate 95! By 1888, Nikon had introduced their first correcting prismatic binocular design which corrected spherical aberration making them much more accurate than earlier designs. By 1896 Konrad Zuse had produced his own improved version of the Zeiss Jena reflecting telescope binocular which allowed users to view objects up close at distances up to 20 kilometers without any trouble at all! The popularity of Binocularity began declining in World War I as advances in optics made it possible for soldiers and civilians alike to use better quality telescopes instead of just simple unaided eyesight for viewing pictures or maps during wartime operations (see Jack Bauer). However, after World War II there was a resurgence in interest in Binocularity due to its ease and convenience when travelling such as being able to transport your binocular equipment with you wherever you go!

It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg metropolitan area. In 1838, Asheboro was one of six towns in Mecklenburg County that formed the new Union Territory when South Carolina seceded from the United States. The first settler in Asheboro was John McKay and his family who arrived on May 25, 1838. Their home and small farm became known as McKay's Corner. In 1849, Drury erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street to serve as a courthouse and jail for early settlers in this area. By 1870, Asheboro had a school system with 10 students; three churches - Baptist (1871), Methodist (1872), and Presbyterian (1873) - operated schools; five businesses were operating: four stores, one hotel/motel, and one blacksmith shop; two men worked on a local railroad company; and seven farmers produced crops including tobacco and cotton. In 1886,"The Thompsons", an influential paper mill family from Wilmington Beach threatened to move their operations to Asheboro because they felt they were not getting fair treatment from local mills owners due to competition from larger mills in neighboring counties. To prevent any such moves by the Thompsons or others like them who might follow suit there was much discussion about creating tariffs or other measures to protect small-town textile manufacturers across America during these times of growth hysteria throughout most of America at that time). After years of back-and-forth between millowners and government officials over protectionism talk died down until World War II when factories began moving away from smaller towns all over America into large urban areas which put more pressure on small town economies caused by job losses associated with mass production giants like Ford Motors plants located in Detroit). After World War II ended many companies left downtown Asheboro for new suburbs closer to Interstate 95 but many residents kept their homes within walking distance of their jobs until recently when some continue use long driveways into town limits just outside city boundaries
