The history of shooting target holders in Asheville, North Carolina begins with the first targets being set up at the old Industrial Park site in 1919. The park was located on what is now downtown Asheville and was home to a variety of businesses and industries. Target shooters from around the area would come together to use the park as their meeting place for target practice. In 1928, an organization was formed to promote target shooting in Asheville and it soon became apparent that there were not enough people who were interested in participating in the sport. It wasn’t until 1935 when a group of individuals decided to start building their own range north of town. This new range consisted of three buildings which still stand today-the old industrial park site, the Aiken County Courthouse Annex, and the southern wing of The University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill Campus. During World War II, many civilians living in or near Asheville started working for military facilities such as Air Force Base RAF Kinston and Fort Bragg. These civilians needed places to shoot targets so they set up shop on property belonging to military installations. Many civilian target shooters also turned their skills into battlefield weaponry by making their own shotguns and rifles using parts they acquired frommilitary manufacturers. By 1945, most civilian target shooters had moved away from Asheville because war production had stopped entirely. However, some individuals continued practicing at this location until 1949 when a new range opened up on Tryon Street just south of downtown called “Majestic Targets” by Don Barnes Sr.. After Majestic Targets closed down in 1958 due to financial problems, local Riflemen’s Association member Caryl Sellers purchased the property and began again setting up targets there until her death in 1984. Today descendants of those earlyTarget Shooters continue practicing at Majestic Targets every Sunday afternoon from 12pm-4pm starting back in 1919!

This plat included part of what is now Bankhead Street and Fourth Avenue south of Interstate 25. Also included were Randolphtown (now Orange County), Mount Mitchell, Avery Hills (now Durham), Gaston Forest (now James City County), Rocky Top (now Graham County), Broad Creek Trail, Pisgah National Forest and Lookout Mountain Wilderness Preserve extending eastward into adjacent counties as far as Johnson County line.. In 1828 Cherokee Chief Nashoba led an attack against white traders near modern-day Goodwell Springs Dam on Wilson's Mill Creek; these attacks continued until 1830 when Nashoba was killed during an expedition against whites at Swann's Gap near modern day Weaverville.. After Nashoba's death his son Ocmulgee moved his encampment from near Goodwell Springs Dam overland to Bear Cave House site on Warm Springs Road about four miles southeast ofuerville in 1831.. Ocmulgee had been leader of a band which had raided white settlements southwest of Asheville late 1800s
