Banks developed what is now central business district around Pulteney Street and 16th Avenue while other early settlers included David Williamson (1775), Nicholas Gist (1777), William Dobbs (c., 1800), Ebenezer Bogart (1810), Julius Cockerill (1811), Jacob Epps(?) (1812) and Samuel Richardson(?). By 1825, some 300 men lived in central business district with over 100 slaves working at pails of rice or corn from morning until night. Charlotte grew rapidly due to its key location midway between slave states – Georgia on one side and North Carolina on the other –and international trade along the Yadkin River. A road connecting Raleigh and Petersburg led directly to Eastern Market where goods were sold before heading east across Rutherford County into then North Carolina?s Mecklenburg County where traders could purchase items such as salt water fish from African Americans living near Fort Bragg under white guard status known as ?the negros.? Market Square formed when two streets connected this market square: Gorman Boulevard running south from High Street crossed Presbyterian avenue west of Trade Streets; Federal Street continuing north from Gorman Boulevard ran parallel to Interstate 85 serving both local businesses within walking distance—-a rarity today! In 1827 merchants built Westminster Hall which served as their social headquarters until 1830 when they replaced it with Randolph Hall due to overcrowding at Westminster which had become too noisy for polite society gatherings since it seated only 120 people! In addition to hosting balls given by various ladies dukes and marquesses visiting England or Europe during these days free admission meant no endearment robes necessary! On November 9th 1830 members Loyalists burned down Randolph Hall followed by several angry mobs!! After 1840 most businesses closed except for one inn run by Quakers until Reconstruction began in 1865!!!
