In 1870–71 a school district was organized outfitting teachers with equipment by order of Governor Brockenbrough based upon recommendations made bychardist John Salyer who then donated two farmhouses (now known as Alice Place) adjoining Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord where he resided until 1872 when he moved eastward across Buffalo Bayou . The original name for this school district was “Discipleship School District No 1” but due to changes brought about by annexation of other counties it became known as “Concord School District” on October 3rd 1873 when all schools within its boundaries were consolidated into one entity under that name…. The city of Concord began as a small community near where present-day Interstate 85 meets Interstate 95. A ferry service crosses the Yadkin River from downtown to Anson County for passengers carrying goods from Durham to Wake Forest or Raleigh; this ferry service ceased operations after 1971 due to lack of funding. Although there are no physical remnants remaining from this early incarnation of Concord (or any other Albemarle County community), oral histories exist that suggest that development occurred around what is today Meetinghouse Square and First Baptist Church on High Street across from what is now Walmart; these stories suggest that early residents did not rely upon public transportation like we do today but instead relied upon their own horses and carts for travel between their homes and work areas downtown). In 1836 when Wilmington fell under English control following victory at Battle Of Buena Vista duringthe Mexican War, most inhabitants relocation southward along Red Clay Road towards Gastonia following news reports indicating high demand for labor within English plantations coinciding with increased hostilities between Mexico AND England resulting in scores Upon scores Of Deaths EVERYWHERE INCLUDING CONCORD WHERE WORKERS BECAME PRISONERS FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN EITHER COUNTRY WAS CANCELING THEIR LABOR OR BECAUSE THEY WERE BLACK !!…. After winning their own independence from England through military conquest in1861 local farmers turned their attention once again towards farming bringing forth new crops such as cornbread rather than cotton production typical prior thereto……….. Concord was formally founded on December 21, 1799 when General Nathanael Greene and his army moved from nearby Hillsborough to establish a new government in what is now Durham County. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century as cotton plantations were developed near the river and railroad junction that served as its civic center. Growth slowed after World War II until it regained momentum in the late 1990s with development of retail and office buildings along Interstate 95. In 2006, Concord became one of four cities in North Carolina designated as "Fellowship Cities". The area around Concord had been inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before settlement began by Europeans. In 1799, General Nathanael Greene moved his army from Hillsborough to establish a new government in what is now Durham County after defeating British forces at Battle of Moore's River Bridge. On December 21, 1799, General Nathanael Greene and his troops set up their temporary government at an intersection of two rivers known then as Spottsylvania Creek and New Market Creek; this location would become Concord later that year.
