The company became a major player in the firearms market with its products being sold throughout the eastern United States. In 1903, the company merged with Winchester Arms Company to form Winchester-Cornelius Firearms Corporation.
Cornelius is a town in Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is the only incorporated place in Union County and it is part of the Raleigh–Durham Combined Statistical Area. The first settler in Cornelius was Nicholas Cornelius, who arrived on May 5, 1795. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street. A post office called Cornelius was established in 1801, and remained in operation until 1905. The community name originated from Nicholas's brother-in-law John Cornelius (1762–1838). John had been born in Scotland and came to America around 1780 when he was just fifteen years old. He married Elizabeth Willingham (1767–1853), who was also from Scots descent. They settled near what is now Broadway Avenue and founded the town of Cornelius on July 1, 1802. The original courthouse located on High Street served as both court house and jail until 1865 when it became known as the State Capitol Building. In 1904, a new courthouse was constructed on Railroad Row adjacent to today's Library Museum which still serves as its primary judicial function today The current courthouse replaced an older structure that burned down during a fire in 1957 . On October 4, 1886 local resident James Jagger shot two men while they were walking home after work at a local grocery store; one man died from his injuries while the other survived with minor injury. This event led to increased law enforcement activity by the Union County Sheriff’s Department which then began using horseback patrols to monitorriminal activity within the community . In 1907 Drury Hinton opened his successful general store at 1207 Spring Street which soon became known as "The Mercantile Place". Hinton operated this business for over fifty five years before selling it to Wm . Harrison who ran it until his death in 1955 . In 1951 Rufus Worth purchased The Gilded Cage restaurant from Harrison yielding more than $1 million dollars over three decades thereby becoming one of North Carolina's most successful businessmen . worth continued operations into 2007 when he sold his interest to fellow NC businessman Harry Beasley Sr.. At present day there are no businesses remaining within Cornelius but its once thriving citizens continue their busy lives outside of town every day by engaging in various forms ofcommerce including manufacturing and services

This increased firepower allowed firearms manufacturers to compete more effectively against each other and make better products for consumers. Cornelius was a small town in what is now North Carolina when the American Civil War began. The townspeople were divided between those who supported the Confederacy and those who supported the Union. Cornelius was one of the few towns in North Carolina to stay loyal to the Union, and many of its residents served in the military. After the war ended, many of Cornelius' residents decided that they would rather move away and start anew than live under Confederate rule. Some of these relocated to other parts of North Carolina while others moved to states such as Georgia or Texas. However, most of Cornelius' original inhabitants still lived there until after World War II. In fact, some descendants of earlier settlers still live in Cornelius today. Cornelius has had a number of notable people associated with it over the years: Cornelius Mayor A C Byrd was one of the first African Americans elected to office in North Carolina; General Nathan Bedford Forrest led an unsuccessful slave uprising at nearby Spruceville during Reconstruction; and Admiral David Dixon Porter attended Cornelius High School before becoming captain general for United States Naval Forces Africa during World War II.
Cornelius was one of the original thirteen colonies in North Carolina. It was named for General Cornelius Harnett, a Revolutionary War hero and governor of North Carolina from 1768 to 1774. The town began as a small settlement on the Yadkin River in 1775, and by 1800 had grown to over 1,000 people.During the Revolution, Cornelius played an important role in helping to defend North Carolina against British forces. In 1814, Cornelius became the capital of North Carolina when Raleigh was founded. After being burned down by Union troops during the Civil War, it reopened as a city in 1865.Today, Cornelius is home to several major businesses including Tyson Foods and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.
