Dunn is located on the eastern edge of the Piedmont region and along Interstate 85. The first people to live in Dunn were white settlers who came from Georgia in 1792. The town was established as a trading post by Captain John Cutts and his family in 1825. In 1851, it became a slaveholding community with fifty slaves. By 1860, however, only three slaves remained in Dunn after other plantations had been sold away or destroyed by war or disease. In 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman's army invaded South Carolina and seized all of that state's slave states except for Dunn—the last Confederate state to be surrendered. As a result of this event, slavery in Dunn ceased immediately and all residents were free until 1870 when they reverted back to full slave status under new legislation passed by the General Assembly known as "The Slave Code". In 1870–71 alone, over one hundred men working on farms near present-day Dunn joined forces with local farmers to resist Reconstruction efforts led by Governor Tryon during the American Civil War era by refusing to sell their land or labor to Union troops or provide goods or services for military purposes; this action helped drive inland many black southern laborers who had been brought north during Reconstruction into northern counties such as Duplin County where they worked on farmsteads owned by white families until their deaths around 1930s due primarily to syphilis Epidemics which then took hold among these same rural black workers creating epidemics which also impacted nearby rural whites making them less willing/able/desperate enough actually own & operate chicken coupes anymore)

Dunn is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,846 at the 2010 census. Dunn was incorporated in 1876 as a town within Rutherford County. In 1927, it became an independent municipality, and in 1973 it merged with nearby Cary to form Dunn-Cary. The first residents of Dunn were men who had come from Scots-Irish families that had settled around Kinston in what is now Buncombe County. They started farming the land around present day Dunn about 1825 and by 1830 the community had a school and two stores. By 1840, there were twenty-eight people living in the community including nine tenant farmers who did farm work for the men on their farms while they attended classes at Kinston Academy. In 1856, when Rutherford County was created from parts of Johnston and Wake Counties, Dunn became part of the new county and continued to be governed by its own board of trustees which included six men appointed by Governor John Pemberton. In 1907 when Cunningham County was created from Johnston County, Dunn also became part of that new county but continued to be governed by its own board of commissioners which included five men appointed by Governor Cecil Cushman. However, when Raleigh annexed Durham into Wake County in 1923 (the same year as Brunswick), CunninghamCounty become part of that new county as well and therefore all three Towns joined together to form one entity – Dunn-Cary – with a total population of 3,294 according to the 2000 census Dunn’s growth has been largely due to commuting into Raleigh or Cary for jobs in Duke University or other high tech companies located near downtown Raleigh or uptown Cary . The birthrate among women has slowed since World War II because many women have left for better opportunities elsewhere after serving our country; however there are still more young woman than male citizens living in this town today (2009). There have also been increased numbers coming here from out of state during economic downturns such as during 2008–2009 recession The current mayor is Lenora Smith who has served since 2009 North Carolina’s history can be traced back to 1718 when English settlers arrived at what is now Kinston with hopes of finding fertile land for agriculture instead of just trading goods with Native Americans for food . This initial contact led to trade between English colonists and local Native American groups before missionaries began preaching Christianity among these peoples in 1692 . The area then fell under British rule until independence came about following America’s Revolutionary War After becoming an independent republic under George Washington’s presidency , North Carolina quickly developed ties with other southern states through trade and political negotiation culminating withratification on July 4th 1796 . With heavy investment from Yankee capitalists , construction began on state capital known as Elizabeth City which would eventually become home to over one million people including both white Southern planters and black “free Negroes” working offslave labor This development reflects early nineteenth century slave society where many African Americans worked hand held fields outside plantations while their owners lived inside privilegely manor houses enjoying sycophantic treatment From this point forward African American laborers increasingly entered production through direct purchase agreements negotiated directly between planters/owners/workers themselves rather than via middlemen like masters might do For most classifications free Negroes enjoyed similar status regardless of legal status but some faced greater challenges such as unequal access rights due primarilyto race

Dunn was founded in 1876 by James Dunn and his brother, John. The town is located in the eastern part of the state on the Yadkin River. It became a city in 1886 and a county seat in 1934. In 1965, it merged with neighboring Rockingham County to form Graham County.
