Eden is a small town in the Metro County of North Carolina. The population was 1,882 at the 2000 census. The community is located on the banks of the Yadkin River, about 20 miles north of Raleigh. Eden is bordered by Blythe to the east, Moorefield to the south andFairfax to the west. The first settlers in what would become Eden were farmers who arrived from Virginia around 1765. They started a farm named Godfrey's Mill which still stands today and produced corn, flour and other crops. A few years later they built a log cabin on what is now known as Town Hall Hill. From this location they could see all around their property and could trade with those living nearby for goods they needed or could produce themselves such as tobacco and cattle. In 1828 two brothers named John and James Fenton came to Eden from Scotland. They had been asked by Alexander Henderson, one of North Carolina’s most powerful men, to found a new settlement in what would become Eden on land that he had bought from Captain Benjamin Church of Wake Forest Company . John Fenton selected the site for his new home and began construction on it soon after coming back from Scotland. He named his home “Fenton” after himself and his brother James (JAMES). There was only one house in Eden when Fenton arrived but within five years he had added another two-story frame structure which served as both his home office (now called “The White House”)and his storeroom/workshop (now known as Pioneer Courthouse). In 1837 James Fenton died suddenly leaving behind him an unfinished building which he never finished - this structure still stands today adjacent to The White House complex across Town Hall Road from Driscoll's Pharmacy). John Gaddis also moved into Eden early in its history; he purchased 3 acres southeast of town on present day College Avenue for $150 dollars cash plus 10 shares of stock in The Cary Tobacco Company . Gaddis set up mills here at various points during his ownership including: Wabash Mills (1841), Brown & Hargrave Manufacturing Works (1847), Dixon Cotton Gin Works #2 (1881) – these mills continued until 1886 when them closed due to lack of demand for cotton products among easterners traveling through central North Carolina during that period In 1892 Jno Cope became interested in buying part interest in Gaddis' mill properties so he organized some investors under the name "Cumberland Valley Cotton ginners" before selling everything back to Gaddis three years later Around 1896 Jno Cope decided not to renew his lease with Godfrey & Son so replaced them with Elisha Sprague & Sons who ran it until 1951 when it was sold again to English Mills Incorporated who continue operations currentlyToday In 1829 Reverend David Reynolds left England for America with family intending eventually settling near Raleigh but instead ended up living near Eden where he met Doctor Samuel Ashe while preaching at magistrates court one spring morningJD Revell wrote: "I saw Doctor Ashe walking down Market Street towards me accompanied by three young women carrying baskets full of flowers...he said unto me 'I am going over into territory now belonging largelyto you,' I replied 'Yes indeed we have more than enough water there too'," thus beginning my association with Doctor Ashe." doctor Samuel ash then took him inside where DR REvell sat down willing him coffeeDR REvell stated "Doctor Ashe told me that if I wanted coffee I should go over into Taborville [nearby] where I saw a man named Johnston working.' So I went over there and got some coffee". After DR REvell ate breakfast JD revell walked back across town[He then walked back out 5000ft or so below ground level]) doing this every day till 1906 when Dutch Roper purchased DR REvell's land west side Main St.,(which included present day Cedar Springs))Dutch Roper established High School there which continues operation today
