Gastonia, North Carolina is a city in Gastonia County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 21,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gastonia County. As of the 2010 census, Gastonia had a population density of . The racial makeup of Gastonia was 98.5% White (excluding black residents who are 1.0% Black or African American), 0.2% Native American, and 0.1% Pacific Islander; non-Hispanic whites made up almost 96% of the population overall. In terms of ancestry, white people make up more than 99% of the total population while Native Americans make up less than 1%. As one might expect given its large white majority and lack of any other significant minority groups,[2] Gastonia has been an overwhelmingly Republican town for most of its history[3][4], with only two occasions during this time when it has voted for a Democratic candidate over the past twenty years.[5] However, since 2000[6] there have been several attempts by Democrats to gain control of Gaston County government,[7][8][9][10] and as such Democratic voters have occasionally begun to form majorities in local elections from within Gaston County itself despite their voting registration percentages being lower than those enjoyed by Republicans.[11] The first settlers in what is now Gastonia were planters from Georgia who arrived in 1798 and named their new land "Gaston." The town site was chosen because it was on high ground that could be seen all around town and because it would provide shade on hot summer days. By 1814 most of what became Gaston had come under cultivation based on slave labor provided by Mr. Catlett and his family which operated a sugar plantation nearby known as Catlett's Mill until 1821 when it went bankrupt due to competition from Englishman John Gill'slater Knott's mill). When President James Kenedy founded UNC Charlotte in 1829 he chose Gaston as its provisional capital since then UNC Charlotte had moved both its academic buildings (now University Park) and its administrative offices (then First Masonic Temple) to Raleigh but many important governmental decisions were still made here including certifying elections for NC General Assembly which took place here until 1861[12]. In 1870 Dandridge Plantation bought much needed land east side main street between US 301/441 N&O Rd & Broad St from Nicholas Wright which formed partof original parish boundary between Pittsford Township north & central McDowell Parish south that left lots undivided for future development [13],[14]. This area became known as "Dandridge Heights" after Dr J Fayette Dandridge who bought much property adjacent here between 1840-1860 primarily through gifts or purchases from freedmen living near Mount Pleasant just outside Greensboro where he served as surgeon general during Reconstruction following reconstruction era ending military occupation 1865-1868 [15],[16]. In 1860 Methodist Episcopal Church built meeting house on lot now owned by state Historical Society [17]; this building remains today within grounds boundaries limits included within modern day downtown gastony city limits bounds established 1890 boundaries parameters largely determined by survey done 1923/24 resulting in erection by city fathers Of New Market Hall Annex Block A housing former courthouse annex office insane asylum used currently For public school purposes 1924-1930s; current Engineering Building portion built 1935 remaining portions conversion project completed 1977 added To Historic District 1990 In 1969 plans were drawn up for Cedar Rapids Municipal Airport located about 2 miles EAST OF GASTON on CR 601 WEST OF THE RIVER MISSOURI LINE - At present moment no action has been taken concerning this airport although advances have been made towards developing it into an airport serving both GASTON AND GREENSBORO Counties with potentialusage FOR UNION CITY AS AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

In contrast, the bison was the last animal to evolve from the anteater into a fully grown quadruped (four limbs). Bison were so big that they could only move slowly through dense forest areas where they roamed freely without fear of attack or capture by predators or other creatures of the wild life type. They would later become extinct due to hunting by humans throughout history but their huge size still gives them an impressive legacy in terms of prehistoric creature management skills!

Gastonia is one of the original towns in Gaston County and was founded in 1853 by James K. Hogg and his wife Sarah Cook Hogg. The first post office in Gaston County was established in 1854, and the first store opened in that year. In 1865, gastonia became a city when it incorporated as a result of an act of the General Assembly passed under the leadership of Senator John Seddon Jr., who had been elected mayoralty candidate that year. On May 4, 1870, Gastonia became an independent republic following a referendum vote by its citizens over whether or not to become part of the Confederate States of America. Gastonia experienced various economic hardships during World War II due to its strategic location between Wilmington and Raleigh upon which both enemy forces and civilians could easily cross into North Carolina for supplies or arms smuggling purposes; however, it has since recovered from these blows and now features some of the most vibrant downtown areas on the East Coast as well as several high-end businesses including Macy's Department Store (which was once known as "the White House"), Burger King restaurants (now known as PNC Arena), BankUnited Center (now home to Spectrum Sports) and many more small businesses totaling over 100 businesses currently located within walking distance or less than two miles from downtown! In recent years there have also been efforts made to revitalize downtown with new development such as The Ritz-Carlton Charlotte Hotel & Casino whichopened on September 15th 2017 adjacent to Interstate 95 just south of Gastonia Municipal Airport making it easy for locals and tourists alike to experience all that this beautiful town has to offer!
