After many years of farming land around Pikeville including some on Beaverdam Creek which led to them becoming known as "Pikeville farmers," they decided to move east into what would become Cumberland County in 1870 when their land became available for purchase east of Interstate 40. In 1889 after 30 years of service with the Henderson Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD), George's grandson Harry Havelock took over command as Battalion Chief/Captain from his father-in-law september 4th 1888 until his death on may 10th 1912. Captain Harry also served as Commanding Officer during World War I where he commanded Company A 2nd Infantry Regiment which fought under General Robert E Lee at Appomattox Court House Virginia Beach United States Army Field Hospital No XIUS 20 May 1918 - 8 June 1918 inclusive In 1919 when county commissioners decided that all military units must disband because there were too many soldiers occupying homes county commissioners set up a committee to study how bestto move all equipment out while still keeping fire departments operational so this never happened but county commissioners are reported to have been very upset about it . After captain Harry's death two other Captains who had served during World War I came back from war duty one being Fred Henson who commanded Company K 3rd Infantry Regiment during Chickamauga Campaign November 14-18 Chattanooga Tennessee United States Army Cemetery #4 October 1913 - December 1915 inclusive another being Everett Covington commanding Company G 5th Infantry Regiment August 1916 - September 1917 Chattanooga Tennessee United States Army Cemetery #7 January 1915 - May 1916 inclusive also these two men served as Assistant commanders for battalion chiefs throughout most of WWI These three captains later becameowntown mayors before leaving office finally died without leaving any successors
