Holly Springs, North Carolina is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of North Carolina. It is bordered by Henderson County to the north, Cherokee County to the east, and Carteret County to the south. The population of Holly Springs was 7,651 as of the 2010 census. The original community that now stands in Holly Springs was founded in 1892 by Reverend Anson Meeks and his wife, Florence. The name "Holly Springs" first appears on a map from 1894. At that time it was just a small farming settlement with a few homes and a schoolhouse. Today's Holly Springs began to grow rapidly after Reconstruction ended in 1865 following America's Civil War. In 1871, Reverend Meeks sold 6 acres (2 hectares) of land near present-day Holly Springs for $1,000 cash to James Hancey and David Fayette Woodward. Soon afterwards, other settlers arrived and soon there were over 20 houses and businesses in what is now known as "theoriginaltown." In 1895, President Cleveland announced plans for an railroad through North Carolina called the Charlotte & Petersburg Railroad Company. This would connect Charlotte with Petersburg Island outside of Richmond Virginia via Mobile Bayou. The project faced stiff opposition from local landowners who feared losing their investments or being shut out of competition. Nevertheless, Cleveland approved construction despite public opposition; this allowed Charlotte booster John Pemberton to start shopping around for new land for his planned city on what would become known as Pemberton Hill today. By 1899 more than 100 people lived in Holly Springs; it had become one of northeast North Carolina's most thriving towns during its early years thanks to its vibrant local economy and its proximity to major markets across the state! In 1923 Rev Gertrude Epps married William Tatum Jr., son of wealthy tobacco baron Wm Tatum Sr.. With Gertrude’s help – along with support from her husband’s business partners – Holly Springs became one of the leading cotton plantations in northeast North Carolina during their time as proprietors/ownership holders/managers (1923 -1978). Eventually they converted their plantation into an educational institution which continues today as UNC-Chapel Hill University: see below! As educational institutions continue making waves throughout our country these days let us remember those pioneer women who fought so hard for justice long ago!

Holly Springs, North Carolina is a small town located in Union County, North Carolina. The population was 901 at the 2000 census. Holly Springs is one of two municipalities in Union County (the other being Pee Dee), and it is the county seat for Union County. In 1830, the area that now Holly Springs was part of Gaston Parish. The first real settlement in what is now Holly Springs occurred in 1838 when John Blair and his family set up shop as a store and post office near present-day Gadsden Street and Centerville Avenue. By 1840, there were twenty families living in Holly Springs. In 1885, developer James Waddell built a large cotton plantation on what is now known as Waddell's Mill Road east of town. In 1888, Waddell sold his land to J.D. Hicks for $5,000 cash. Hicks began developing the mill complex which included four homes, five businesses including a blacksmith shop and gristmill, three churches (Methodist Episcopal Church on Main Street; Baptist Church on East Main Street; Post Office on West Main Street) and fourteen outbuildings including a schoolhouse, barns and silos). The mills produced over 1 million pounds of cotton each year from 1889 until 1926 when they were closed due to World War I competition from new synthetic fabrics made by DuPont Company (now ExxonMobil). The mill complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 along with nearby Old Hammond Plantation which also features contributing buildings from this period including a brick courthouse dating back to 1893 that still stands today across from Interstate 85 between Pee Dee Junction and Yorktown Mills Drive off I-95 South). In 1927 whenUnion Countys merged with Gaston County to form State Route 221 north of downtown Holly Springs renamed state highway 421 after James Waddell's cotton plantation name then Highway 421 became State Route 221A within State Route 221 designation system later that year following similar unification process throughout all 50 United States during this time period); however the mill complex continued operation under its original name through most of these years remaining active primarily as an agricultural production center supplying local farmers with produce such as corn meal/flour feeders/chicken feeders/fodder etc.) until finally shutdown due to economic reasons once again around 2006 However reopen as early access road only open late summer/fall thru winter months
Holly Springs was founded in 1882 by Scots-Irish settlers and named for the Holly tree that grew nearby. The community thrived for a century, until it was destroyed in the 1930s by a tornado. It has since been rebuilt and renamed Holly Springs Village.
