This French trading post continued operations until 1755 when it burned down due to weather conditions following heavy rains caused by Hurricane Betsy which struck the region that fall.. As real estate values increased throughout much coastal southeastern United States during the late 19th century numerous large homes were erected around White's Landing - some still standing including Music Hall (now used as a conference center), State House (later replaced with University Village), Masonic Temple (now used as Renaissance Center), Brown’s Inn (now used as Jaguars stadium parking garage), Presbyterian Church (renamed Cathedral Hospital) & many more... It wasn't until World War II that significant development occurred around White's Landing culminating in 1945 with construction of Navy Recruitment Terminal No 2 which became one of America's most important naval airfields later becoming Naval Air Station Jacksonville....
