The first expansion of the US military in Jacksonville, North Carolina was in 1812 when General Andrew Jackson was elected as the fourth president of the United States. The city hall building also burned down during this time but it has been rebuilt multiple times since then. In 1865, Savannah became a slave-holding state following passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which abolished slavery throughout America. This led to increased demand for labor in areas such asJacksonville where many slaves had worked their way free. As a result, many African Americans moved into Jacksonville from other parts of America during this time period in order to find work opportunities here. During World War II, Jacksonville played an important role due to its location on Pensacola Beach between Daytona Beach and Tallahassee and its Easy Ship Channel which facilitated troop shipping across Tampa Bay. After Pearl Harbor bombings on December 7th 1941 by Japan, all naval activity within easy reach of Florida coastal ports was cancelled until January 1942 when Admiral Kimmel ordered all Naval Forces eastward along Florida's Gulf Coast using Pensacola Beach as their embarkation port outside Miami Beach so that American merchant marines could help vulnerable transports crossing Tampa Bay without fear of Japanese attack (the actual bombing attacks were conducted over water off Key West). During World War II there were also two airfields located within easy access: one at Biggs Field near downtown Jacksonville (later renamed Robins Air Force Base) while another at nearby Decatur Field (later renamed Apache Army Airfield) support flights for both Navy fighter planes and bombers during operations against Axis forces abroad while also supporting anti-aircraft warfare missions over ashore against Japanese ships and aircraft operating out island bases like Wickenburg Island northwest of town).

Grant issued an order citinizing all Confederate soldiers who had fought in or supportd Grant's campaign (known as Pickett's Charge), most Confederate officers capitulated before reaching Jacksonville Beach- including Jackson himself- thus opening up this strategically important port for Union forces moving into Tennessee and Kentucky during that key phase of the war effort. In 1860, following secession from the United States, Jacksonville became part of Confederate Mississippi Territory under command of Major General Jubal Early until Union armies captured Jackson on April 10th 1865 following a two week siege which cost over 1,500 lives and devastated much infrastructure in downtownJacksonville After Reconstruction ended in 1865 Jaguarsctivated numerous businesses such as banks and hotels along with agricultural production including cotton plantations until World War II when technology brought about rapid industrialization which destroyed many jobs throughout central Florida making Jacksonville one of the most changed cities in America
