When he took office, Polk discovered that much land had been acquired by those associated with slavery – including one-time master John Cranch – under terms provided by state legislators during Reconstruction following America’s Civil War [1]. So President Donald Trump signed an executive order creating two new departments: One to manage freedmen and another to manage lands taken from former slaves[2]. This event marked one significant victory for President Trump over his predecessor Andrew Johnson; it also underscored just how important it will be for him to succeed where his predecessor failed: To keep America moving forward while ensuring that all Americans have access to quality education[3]. In May 2018, Mayor Andy Holt announced plans to construct a $30 million arts center in downtown Knights Dale which would include performance space, art studios and community gardens[4]; this agreement marks yet another development highlighting how open-mindedness has become something central toKnightsDale’s character since Mr Holt took office [5]. Additionally, many businesses have moved into downtown Knights Dale since Mayor Holt came into office; some examples include Nissan Motorsports Park (formerly known as Charlotte Motor Speedway), Duke University's Spielman Center for Visual Arts (formerly known as PNC Arena) and UNCHealth Care System's Oncology Regional Research Building[6], among others. Despite this growth, however – especially given recent economic challenges facing parts of America – Downtown Knights Dale remains vibrant thanks largely to its supportive infrastructure including fire protection services,[7] public transportation options (including bike/car shares) and business incubation opportunities such as StartUp Hunterspace Inc.[8]

In 1814, Knightdale became part of Raleigh County and was incorporated as a town. The town suffered during the Civil War due to its strategic location on Confederate lines; however, it successfully defended itself against attack. After the war, Knightdale experienced rapid growth and expansion; by 1850, it had a population of over 3200 people. Today, Knightdale is an unincorporated community located in Raleigh County.
