Knightdale is a small town in North Carolina, United States. It is the location of the Knightdale Research Institute which runs the world's first optical bench and also has some of the most advanced equipment for studying light and optics. The institute was founded in 1911 by Dr. Edwin A. Armstrong and Dr. Roy W. Wilson as part of UNC Chapel Hill's Department of Optics and Photonics. The institute operates a number of research facilities across campus including the Armoury Annex, which houses one of the largest photoelectric cells in the world; the Physics Building with its three large mirrors that enable researchers to study light directly at close range; and both buildings on Mount Mitchell, home to one of two large acoustical generators in existence. In addition to these main facilities, there are numerous smaller laboratories scattered throughout various parts of campus as well as outbuildings used for storage or testing equipment related to optics and light research. One such outbuilding is called "The Bunker", which has been used for storage since at least 1954 when it was built as part of a lab building for Physical Technology Laboratory (PTL) #2 oncampus at UNC-Chapel Hill! Today, The Bunker continues to be used by PTL #4 as their offices while other labs move into new buildings on campus like The Armory Annex next door which will house PTL #5 from 2021 onwards! An interesting side note about The Bunker is that it actually contains two sets of double doors: One opens onto an underground tunnel system that goes all the way down to Duke University’s physics department; and another set opens onto what once was PTL#2’sequipment room!

Knightdale is a small town in northwestern North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,143 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro–High Point, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Knightdale is located on the border of Johnston and Surry counties. The first mention of Knightdale was in 1611 when James I of Scotland established a postulate there to surveil his new colony in North Carolina. In 1776, during the American Revolution, British General Cornwallis invaded Johnston County and burned all but 4 outposts in what is now Knightdale before withdrawing back into Virginia. In 1868, after much discussion by the Board of Commissioners, it voted to incorporate as a town. In 1902, Waddell Field opened up adjacent to present day Knightdale with an airport serving nearby Greensboro and High Point; Air Force Base Chapel Hill also served as a base for bomber aircraft during World War II and Korean War flights until its closure in 1974. From 1951 to 1989 it was home to Greensboro-based Marshall-Linton College (now UNC Greensboro). On September 11th 2001 attacks two planes crashed into two towers within minutes each other near City Hall station (just east of where today's intersection would be), resulting in more than 3000 fatalities and intense damageboth inside and outside city limits including extensive destruction to business blocks within blocks of downtown core tower One (the original building)and Two (the second building). Many people were killed either directly or indirectly from exposure or collapse following impact of both buildings. Despite high levels of destruction throughout most if not all parts surrounding one or both towers - much like New York City after 9/11 - little physical evidence remained anywhere near these Towers that could be used for forensic examination leading some investigators initially ???to suggest that terrorist activities may have taken place??? Just over three years later on December 5th 2003 demolition took place at One Tower providing unequivocal evidence that this was an act sponsored by then President George W Bush??? The area around these twin towers has since been redeveloped into mixed use with retail space above ground while also containing several large office buildings – many originally built as part of Marshall-Linton’s campus expansion – which are still under construction today despite being complete only months ago!!! This redevelopment has resulted in increased traffic congestion onto Randolph Avenue due to continued construction activity just across the street from what once lay empty land ??? although now housing developments can be seen taking shape next door

Knightdale was founded in 1796 by Captain John Knight and his wife Eleanor. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources, including coal and timber. The Knights developed a successful banking business in the early 1800s. They also cultivated a strong agricultural tradition, selling crops such as corn, cotton, and potatoes to local farmers. In 1868, the town was renamed for General Robert Ewell Pemberton after he helped lead Confederate forces against Union forces at the Battle of Chancellorsville. In 1897, Knightdale became an independent city. In 1950, it merged with nearby Gastonia to form the current City of Knightdale.
