Knightdale has had many businesses over time including clothing stores (Henderson Mill & Tailors), grocery stores (Grocery Outlet Inc.), car dealerships (Chrysler-Jeep dealership), an ice cream parlor ( Knights Dairy Creamery), an FM radio station ( KNXV-FM ), lumberyards (Lumberyard Company Ltd.), a printing press (Fords Printing Press) and several churches including First Baptist Church which dates back to 1792. Some notable residents include artist Roy Lichtenstein and entrepreneur Walter Scott who cofounded WXIA-TV Channel 8 here in 1973 before moving on to other stations around America. Today, Knightdale remains largely agricultural with some light manufacturing taking place along with some recreational activities such as hunting or fishing as well as several schools like Elementary School #2 which started up in 1964 followed by High School #1 which started up in 1965; both are still active today according to their websites!

Knight who commanded American forces during the Mexican-American War. For many years the town was a small farming community with few businesses. In 1917, construction of the first local high school began and soon afterwards, Knightsdale became an important center for education in North Carolina. The town's economy shifted from agriculture to manufacturing during the late 20th century as new industries developed in nearby Research Triangle Park and elsewhere in North Carolina.
