Laurinburg was first settled in 1792 by John Laurin and his wife, Hester. The town was named for General Nathanael Greene, who fought at the Battle of Saratoga. In 1824, the town was renamed for General Nathan Bedford Forrest, who had commanded Confederate forces during the Civil War. Laurinburg became a city in 1907 and is located in Gaston County, North Carolina.
