There is no one place in the United States where history and ammunition are more intertwined than Lenoir, North Carolina. The city was founded by white settlers in 1795 and became an important military and manufacturing center during the 19th century. By 1800, muzzleloading rifles had become so popular that Congress passed laws allowing all Americans to purchase them “free” from local merchants beginning March 1st of that year. While muskets continued to be used throughout most of the 18th century due largely to their strength (especially against Native American raiders) and affordability (most people could not afford even rudimentary cannons), muzzleloader rifles slowly gained favor among militaries as well as civilians during the 19th centurydue largely to two things: faster firing rates for individual rounds thanks to improvements in technology (such as breech loading devices), as well as increased accuracy with longer barrels compared to early muzzleloaders

The present day Main Street provides access to much of downtown Lenoir while also providing access to several local businesses such as Barnes & Noble and Joes Pizza Hut..
