In 1930, Lincolnton was designated as one of seventy American cities participating in the national New Deal program called " resettlement." This program allowed city residents who had been displaced by natural disasters such as earthquakes or fires to return home and rebuild their lives under government auspices; Lincolnton received 1,500 refugees from all over America including Koreans and Japanese Americans during this time period. After World War II ended, large numbers of Korean refugees returned to South Korea while others continued living in northern Virginia until they were finally forced back into South Korea following that country's invasion of her own soil in 1950s (see also: Korean War).
