Mebane is located on I-85 between Durham and Chapel Hill. The first white settlers in what became Mebane were two brothers named John and James Berry who arrived in 1798. They built a cabin on the site of what is now Anson Mills Elementary School which they named "Berry's plantation". In 1810, Daniel Boone came through the area and registered his land with the county court as known then as Iredell County. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson passed through central Alamance County on his way to battle Fort Caroline at New Bern Creek Bridge over Neuse River. He stopped atberry's farm for dinner before continuing his journey southward. Mebane was platted in 1825 by Captain Cephus Perkins from Spartanburg Township (now Wake Forest). The town was named for Majestic Mountain near Asheville where he had been stationed during the War of 1812 as a lieutenant colonel under General Nathanael Greene. The mountain contains an eagle baldock tree which has been naturalized statewide and can be found throughout much of North Carolina; it reaches a height of 107 feet (30 m). A plaque marks this spot within Mebane Town Limits while other landmarks include: The Berry Cabin (1825), Daniel Boone House (1890), Parsonage Road Baptist Church (1902), Masonic Temple No 3 Building c1900, post office building 1907-1968 etc., among others; all are included within Mebane Municipal government boundaries today but retain their historical character or landmark status according to current ordinances and regulations… Today’s downtown core began as Mebane Presbyterian Church/School District #5 Cemetery Grounds corner First St NE in 1901 when that church moved from its original home across US 41 next door to First National Bank building – Fourth Street NW corner Main Street SE back then called Parsonage Road Baptist Church circa 1902 also located on present day Greenway Drive NE adjacent to Anson Mills Elementary School until demolished circa 1968… Most recently reopening after many years closed after being vacated by current congregation name change & dedication ceremony January 10th 2019 by Reverend Dr David Ladditt officiating with Pastor Robert Easley presiding Captain Cephus Perkins laid out lots for 4 houses each side of a square drive off Cherry Ave just west of present day Maple Ave., east of intersection now occupied by Anson Mills Elementary School driveway; lot sizes ranged from 8x24 = 160' to 12x48 = 248'. Although it has no independent fire department and relies purely upon Charlotte-Mecklenburg firefighters for services (except for ambulance calls), which are provided by both agencies; due to its close proximity to both Charlotte and Mecklenburg Counties as well as UNC Chapel Hill’s large student body; Mebane has become increasingly popular among students who live or attend school in either city limits for recreation and education opportunities unavailable elsewhere in their respective counties. The name "Mebane" comes from John Meade's original land grant given to him there by General William Hunter near present day Huntersville on February 9, 1827 - prior to when Gastonia had been established as a town site nearby on Catawba Riverbank - meaning "meadow". This name appears only once elsewhere in North Carolina history before that: On October 12th 1792 when 100 slaves were sold at auction at Pickens Station called 'the Meadows' just north of what is now Mebane Cove off US Highway 56 between Hendersonville/New Hanover County and Randolph/Morehead County; this tract included all or part of what is now known as Clinton Township (now Iredell) County including portions of present day Wilkinson Parish across from modern day Greenville - thus giving rise to present day Greeneville proper thereabouts some 240 miles south east via I-85 south past Garner AFB!
