In the early 1800s, North Carolina was a hotbed of ammunition production. The state’s location and abundance of natural resources made it a prime place to produce ammo for firearms. The company produced weapons for both American and Confederate armies during the Civil War. In 1863, they were purchased by new owners who renamed them Union Armory Corporation Ltd.. That same year saw the start of what would be an illustrious Ammo history at Mint Hill- their first importations of free-floated brass rounds into America began! These rounds would go on to be used in numerous battles including Gettysburg and Vicksburg . By 1868, Union Armory had become one of America’s leading rifle manufacturers under their new name- Armstrong Arms Corporation Limited-. In 1898, Armstrong Arms Corporation changed its name again- this time to Remington Arms Company Incorporated-. Remington arms products continued to be popular among Americans through World War II (1939-1945) due in part to their robust design and excellent performance against enemy fire. After World War II ended however, Remington reverted back to its original name - Armstrong Arms Corporation Limited-. Throughout most of its History though there have been occasional changes - such as becoming Remington Outdoor Co., Ltd.- but these have always been temporary moves that reverted back eventually back to Armstrong Arms Corporation Limited/.

Over time though, other activities have taken precedence over coin production such as tourism (which has grown significantly since 2000) or rural life (which has continued unchanged). Today, Mint Hill is home to an excellent collection of antique stores and galleries as well as several restaurants specializing in unique American cuisine like country hamsteak or Appalachian peach pie.
