Mint Hill is a small town located in Johnston County, North Carolina. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. Mint Hill is one of the oldest communities in Johnston County, established in 1777 as a post office and trading post by settlers who were looking for a site to build their new home. The name "Mint Hill" comes from the fact that many of the early settlers found white peppermint ( Mentha arvensis) growing on Mount Carmel. The town was first settled around 1800 by Scots-Irish immigrants who were looking for land to farm and live on after leaving Ireland during the potato famine. In 1814, Mint Hill became part of what was then called Virginia Township, which was renamed Johnston County in 1851 after General William Johnston, an American general who served in Mexican and Indian wars and later became governor of North Carolina. In 1865, when Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter during the American Civil War, Mint Hill saw heavy fighting between Union troops and Confederate forces. Many people fled into exile or hiding places within mint hill until eventually it surrendered on April 12th, 1865. Aftermath of war led to high rates of crime and poverty in this small town which gradually recovered over time through programs like food stamps and public housing initiatives. Today, Mint Hill remains a small community with much history that can be visited during any given year while still keeping itsamed atmosphere unique to its own hometown. The city of Durham has recently annexed much of Johnston County making MintHill's border with Durham slightly more difficult to identify than before but overall it retains some aspects that make it such an interesting place to live and visit - including its community gardens which offer fresh vegetables all summer long!

Mint Hill is a small town in Chatham County, North Carolina. It was founded in 1794 by Colonel John Minturn and his family. The town was named for the mint that was located nearby. The Minturns were early settlers in the area and their home still stands today on the Main Street corner of Minturn and Park Streets. In 1819, Colonel Minturn's son, James A. Minturn, donated land to make into a township. The first trustees were John Cranch and George Hargrave. When James A. Minturn died in 1827, his wife Sarah took over as trustee until her death in 1830. She was followed by her son-in-law Elijah Broughton until he died in 1836. After Sarah's death, four more trustees were appointed: Drury Wades (1837–41), Phebe Goode (1842–44), Solomon Swain (1845–49), and John Witherspoon (1850–54). The first courthouse was built in 1848 on what is now Elm Street near the cemetery where today's schools are located. It served as the town court house from its inception until it burned down in 1870. The next courthouse was built on what is now US 1 about two miles east ofmint hill on Chapel Hill Road which served as the court house from 1870 to 1909 when it burned down again When mint hill became an incorporated municipality it had a population of only 10 people but soon began to grow with development around it including businesses such as grocery stores, doctors' offices, churches etcetera Mint Hill experienced some growth spurt during World War II when many factories opened up around town making minthill one of the most industrialized towns within driving distance of Raleigh/Chapel Hill In recent years however things have slowed down somewhat with few new businesses opening up or even remaining operational
