The town was founded in 1869 by Morris and his wife Anna as a small farming community on the Yadkin River near what is now High Point University. Morrisville grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources; it became one of the most prosperous towns in eastern North Carolina during the late 19th century. However, during World War II, Morrisville experienced significant decline as a result of its proximity to Raleigh and other military bases. Since then, however, the town has undergone several redevelopment projects that have helped it become an attractive community again. The original name for Morrisville was Lynchburg Township which was given to them by General James Harnett after he saw their house while traveling through their territory in 1795. On July 20th 1869, Anna married Morris who had moved from Randolph County, Virginia with his family just three years earlier. They named their new community after himself – Morrisville – and their daughter Margaret (known locally as "Mamie"). In early 1870s they started growing corn and potatoes on local hillsides; soon enough they had built a hut or log cabin for themselves on what is now Ulysses S Grant Boulevard. By 1871 they had also erected a church and school with five students both Male and Female attending two sessions each weekinder than when first established! Over time more homes were built: a Baptist Church (1872), Methodist Episcopal Chapel (1876), Presbyterian Church (1881), Post Office (1886) all within 5 miles of each other until by 1890 there were over 100 residents here! After experiencing some economic setbacks during the Panic of 1893-94 due to high real estate prices throughout eastern North Carolina – primarily because investors had pulled out of rural areas following this type of investment pattern – Anna decided to sell her share in 1880smorrisvillenation [sic] forming themselves into Incorporated Associations known today as 'The Ladies' Club'. Their goal was always To Serve Others And Get Our Feet Under Ground’ meaning “to do good work quietly and unostentatiously” Eventually these Clubs developed into various civic organizations including The Morristown Improvement Association which operated gas stations between 1911-1914 service area then becoming known as American Gas Corporation later renamed Duke Energy Company; The Friends Of Lynnwood Park which operates golf courses & parks adjacent thereto since 1915; The Knights Of Columbus Council #2 which services churches therein since 1903; finally The Society Of Jesus Or Jesuits Order Discalced Carmelites/African Americans who are sisters order living & working herein since 1903 all within one municipality!!!
