Waynesville is an unincorporated community in Moore County, North Carolina, United States. The community was located on the border of Waynesville and Morehead City. It was founded by Captain James Kenedy in 1825 as a trading post between those two towns. The first scopes to be used in Waynesville were built by Captain Kenedy himself. He had been using his own telescope when he discovered a group of red deer near his post; he quickly realized that this type of instrument could allow him to see things that other people could not.
