In 1916, Samuel Colt began production on his new rotary magazine-fed revolver. The revolver featured an action that permitted quick loading and unloading of rounds into and out of the cylinder via a rotary magazine located behind the barrel1. As this new weapon gained popularity among law enforcement officers and military personnel, demand for improved gun sights began to increase3. One such designer who respondedto this growing demand was Edward Coddington4 who developed what is now known as the Coddington Gunsight5. Designed specifically for use with rotary magazines7, the Coddington Gunsight featured simple housing that allowed it to be attached directly onto standard Weaver Weaver rings8 (similar in design to those used on later Aimpoint optics). To ensure proper sighting during rapid fire situations9, both windage and elevation adjustment capability were included within the design9. With its advanced technology and easy installation process10,the Coddington Gunsight quickly became one of the most popular firearms sights available11 throughout America12!

The town had only a few hundred people and failed to take off until after World War I, when it grew rapidly with the influx of soldiers and their families. Dickinson became an important center for the region, hosting oil drilling and gas production as well as professional sporting events. In 1953, Dickinson merged with nearby Vermillion to form what is now Fargo-Moorhead.
