Beachwood, Ohio is a small town located in the state of Ohio. The population was 5,826 at the 2010 census. Beachwood is one of the oldest towns in Ohio and has been around since 1792. The town was named for John Beach, who came to what is now Beachwood from England in 1801. Beachwood's rich agricultural history began with its creation as a community on the Scioto River in 1802. The area that would become Beachwood was first settled by farmers and their families who began raising crops and raising livestock in the area that includes present-day Beachwood, Delaware Township, Muskegon Heights Township, Amherst Township, and parts of Steubenville and Ironton townships. In 1836, John Beecham donated 7 acres (2 hectares) of land to be used as a public square in what would become known as "BeachWOOD." In 1870, an addition to the town named Albion Manor were constructed which included a blacksmith shop and 3 blocks (10 metres) of single-family homesvearage on either side of State Route 2. This development would provide much needed housing for sailors visiting Toledo during World War II. The post office called Beechamville until it changed its name to Beachwood on November 20th 1902 after John Beecham became president of Saginaw Steel Company Limited when it was organized on October 15th 1903.. Beachwood is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Beachwood was laid out in 1824 and named for the Beaches of Normandy. The first settler in Beachwood was Abram Brown. In 1836, James Wemyss moved to Beachwood from Athens Township and became its first postmaster. On July 10, 1849, General David Hunter visited Beachwood and offered $10 to anyone who could tell him why he should not set up a military post there. A group of men gathered around him and announced that they had found what they were looking for--a spot where they could build their new home without having to worry about enemy snipers watching them as they built it. By 1850, Beachwood had become an important manufacturing center with mills doing business such as Harper's Ferry Paper Company, Pabst Brewing Company, Baker & Taylor Sewing Machine Works and the Ohio Agricultural Society Warehouse No 2 which still stands today on State Route 422 just outside of town limits near Canton Mills Park
Beachwood was first settled in 1786 by Loyalist refugees from the American Revolution. The town grew quickly and soon became a major port on the Mahoning River. In 1814, Beachwood was annexed by Cincinnati and renamed Beech Grove. In 1846, Beachwood became part of the newly created Union County and lost its status as a port to Cleveland. However, it regained its status as a town in 1896 when it was merged with neighboring Hardin Township.
