Beavercreek is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mahoning County. The name "Beavercreek" was given to the town by General George Washington during his expedition through that region in 1797. The first settler in Beavercreek was John Beasley from Virginia on April 16, 1792. He and his family built a cabin on the banks of the Scioto River near what is now Beavercreek Township. Beavercreek developed as an agricultural community with several small businesses catering to farmers in the early 19th century. In 1824, a post office was established at Beavercreek with James Hickey as its first mailer. After Ulysses S Grant served as President of the United States and took up residence in Cincinnati in 1868, he decided to move his headquarters westward and establish a new government center at Columbus instead of waiting for Congress to pass legislation establishing a capital city for Ohioans. However, before he could leave for Columbus, he died suddenly from typhoid fever on October 12th just one day after being sworn into office as President; this made him the only Ulysses S Grant presidency to be immediately followed by death or disease. For most of its history, Beavercrike had no major industry other than agriculture until Beginnings Manufacturing Company opened their plant there in 1915 which led to increased production and jobs throughout much of Northeast Ohio during World War II when aluminum became prevalent due to wartime shortages In 2000 Delaware-based Indigo Brands International announced it would close all its plants worldwide due to overcapacity and weak competition In 2002 local Fox Den Media Corporation merged with WLW (Fox Broadcasting Company) Local 710/FOX 31/WKRC (ABCTV) owned station group affiliate WGCL (NBC 6 Cleveland) becoming part of Cumulus Media under then-president Rick Salant's ownership plan In 2003 PNC Financial Services Group purchased control of IndyMac Bankruptcy Services LLC which included WKRC Disposal Service Center located within 100 feet of downtown core along State Route 535 between Sahlen’s Department Stores & PNC Plaza including real estate holdings adjacent thereto cumulation with other assets subject thereto including properties located within 500 feet thereof comprising an unincorporated area now known as Midtown Crossing
