Bexley, Ohio is a small town in the United States that was founded in 1827. The population of Bexley was 9,812 as of the 2010 census. It is located in Summit County. The city lies at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Grand Rivers, just east of Pittsburgh and west of Erie. The river has given its name to both Bexley and its ZIP code: 17702. The area now known as Bexley was first settled by German farmers in the early 1800s. By 1830, it had become an agricultural center with a population of around 100 people. In 1827, John Bechtel purchased land near present-day Bexley from James Fenton for $10 per acre. He built a cabin on what became Bechtel's farmstead, which he named "Bethlehem." Over time, other residents came to live there including Samuel Morse and his brother Alfred who developed a printing press here in 1829; this press later became famous as the Alfred Mosely Press. The town continued to grow throughthe years due to its strategic location between Pittsburgh and Erie (then called Canandaigua). In 1840, when Pennsylvania acquired Ohio from Mexico through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Bechtel donated part of his land to make up for lost territory but never moved his home or business from Bethlehem until he died in 1887. A post office called Bethlehemsburg was established in 1850; it closed operations in 1865 after only five months because no mail arrived from Bexley daily enough to justify keeping a establishment open long term. A new post office opened at Bethlehemsburg on September 14th 1870 bearing Bechtel's name with a new ZIP code: 17702; it operated until 1951 when it merged into Pittsburgh's postal service under that name too. In 1863–1864 Union General Ulysses S Grant used Bethlehem as his summer headquarters while leading an army across Pennsylvania during the American Civil War; however, most evidence suggests he never actually visited or stayed anywhere within miles of Bexley proper although some local historians claim he did stay at one point near where today's University Boulevard meets Interstate 376 (just off US 11). Bexley is a town in Tompkins County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Bexley was John Whipple and his family who arrived in 1786. The land that now makes up Bexley was originally part of Muskingum County. In 1827, the Township of Bexley was created from parts of Muskingum and Washington Township. George Hays donated land to form what is today Bexley Township (west side) on May 5, 1827 by exchanging some lots with Elijah Hicks and Reuben Prentice. On February 16, 1829 the township plat was filed with the state as follows: "Be it known that I George Hays have transferred to said township all my right and interest therein lying west of a line running northeast from me southwestward for a distance aggregating about five rods; thence easterly one rods to a point well marked on an old map bearing easton's road; thence northwesterly one rod to another point well marked on said map." In 1839, when Cleveland incorporated as a city, almost all of Tompkins County became part of Cleveland through annexation. However, small portions of Muskingum and Ottawa townships still remained within Tompkins County until 1892 when they were merged into Cuyahoga County. This left Bexley unincorporated but its nameakes remain attached to their community today even though it no longer exists as an organized entity within any county or municipality. On October 6th 1898 voters approved incorporation of the village of Gresham into Cuyahoga Countys municipal limits making it possible for residents located within Greshams borders to vote without having to leave their homes or change their citizenship status in order do so. At this time there were over 9500 residents living in Cuyahaga County according to unofficial census count which means that most likely more than half if not all residents living inside Greshams boundaries voted for incorporation into CuyahagaCounty! This shows just how much importance local communities placed on being able to participate fully in our larger society! Bexleys roots can be traced back far before 1898 however its nameakes are most likely responsible for starting things off haha! The first store opened up here n 1903 called "The Smith House". After many years this business closed down but reopened as "Greenspun's" later renamed "Baxendale's". Eventually both businesses closed again and brixleys first post office opened up here too which continued until 1953 when it moved across town andopened up again as "Post Office Box" finally becoming known as simply "BEXLEY POST OFFICE" after changing hands several times over the years! This history really does show just how intertwined our smaller communities are with each other!
