In 1864, Ohio’s fusion legislature passed a bill that provided for the founding of a state police force. The new agency was to be called the Bexley County Sheriffs’ Office. Sheriff John J. Hardesty was its first sheriff. In 1875, Bexley County became part of the new Toledo Township and by 1898, it had also become part of the city of Toledo. In 1903, when Toledo Township merged into the city of Toledo, Bexley County became a part of that municipality as well. From 1903 until 1920, it was one of four townships in Toledo Township; the others were Old West Side (now Painesville), Northside (now Grayslake), and Southside (now Bellefontaine). In 1925, it merged with Harper Township to form Harper-Buchanan Township. From 1927 until 1950 it was known as Beech Grove Township; from 1951 until 1970 it was known as Beechwood Heights Township. In 1970, most of Beechwood Heights Township located in northeast Cleveland were annexed by the City of Cleveland to form what is now Midtown Cleveland

Bexley, Ohio is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cuyahoga County. Bexley was founded in 1827 and incorporated as a town in 1859. The name "Bexley" comes from the Wyandot word "bey", meaning "place where game is shot." The first European to see what became Bexley was Captain John Smith on July 4, 1795 when he landed his small party on the lake at present-day Cleveland. He named the place after Sir George Bey of Flemish descent who had been sent by General Forbes with an army to quash a Native American uprising near Cleveland in 1792. In 1827, landowner James Abert donated 640 acres (2 km²) of land adjacent to what is now the downtown area for use as a township by Berrien County residents who were then struggling with getting infrastructure built for their new settlement. By 1860, Bexley had a population of 2,500 people and was part of the larger village of Cleveland. In 1871–72 voters approved becoming an independent city through annexation by Cleveland following riots that began over disputed mayoral elections in Cleveland two years earlier which left five people dead and dozens injured. Bexley, Ohio is a town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,502 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first settlement in what would become Bexley was made on November 8, 1800 by Captain David Brown and his family from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They named their new community for their native village in AyrshireScotland called "Braidie." Brown's brother-in-law John Stephenson also settled in this area and platted the town of Bexley on March 24, 1802. The name of the town honor General James Wilkinson who commanded American forces during the War of 1812. In 1814 William Hinton erected a log cabin near present day Middlebury Avenue and started to carry on his farm operations there until he died in 1815 at age 63 years old. His widow Mrs. Hinton continued living there until her death in 1825 when it was taken over by her son-in-law Levi Coffin who operated it as an agricultural village until 1870 when it became a coal mining town with its own post office which still remains today In 1870 investors organized what would become The Cincinnati Coal & Coke Company and soon after began producingcoal here which led to growth and development throughout the early 20th century including: numerous mills (the first being built by Wm Eager), churches (First Baptist Church opened in 1865), homes (the first being built by Capt Elijah Parish), businesses (The First National Bank opened November 15th 1886) In 1948 Bexley became home to The Cleveland Indians baseball team before they moved to Indianapolis later that year
