Centerville, Ohio is a town in East Morrow Township, Cambria County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,574 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from "hardship" which may refer to its location on the banks of the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron. Centerville was founded in 1824 by George Washington Woodward and his brother Solomon Woodward as a farming community on land acquired from the Muskingum Company. It became a manufacturing center for shotguns and other firearms products during World War II. The town's economy shifted to service industry afterheimerormalization in the 1970s. Centerville is home to both Eastern European immigrants who have kept much of their cultural heritage and American-born citizens who are descendants of those immigrants. Centerville is located at (41.814694), near Cleveland proper and Akron city limits. As of the 2010 census, Centerville had a population of 2,574 people living within its borders: 1,929 residents who were foreign-born (84% born in another country), 446 residents who were single or divorced/widowed (27% married or widowed), 313 residents who lived below poverty line ($18,615 per year), and 71 residents who were veteran status military veterans (30% male; 20% female). The townsite that now makes up Centerville was first surveyed by Captain John Findlay on March 12th 1792 when he named it "Investigations". A post office called Investigations opened in 1830 but never functioned due to lack of mail server space. However, because centerville was located downstream from where Brownstown now stands it likely received mail from Brownsville more often than not until 1853 when General Alfred Sully established an outpost here with command responsibility for all East Morrow Township including Centerville In 1854 gold was found nearby so settlers began building homes closer to what would become their workplace By 1860 most everything had been built except for one small fortification known as Fort Payne which served as a storage depot for cannonballs shot over Ironton Heights while troops fought against Native Americans raiding across the river

They started out building cabins but soon discovered that there was no water available so they turned to mining which led to their first commodity product being gold ore discovered just east of their property on November 12, 1825 while they were away prospecting for coal; this opened up new opportunities for them as well as other entrepreneurs who developed mills around this time including Andrew Carnegie who built one in Scranton Township within 10 years following its discovery. Centerville, Ohio is a small town located in the Miami Valley region of Appalachia. The population was 2,752 at the 2000 census. Centerville was founded in 1868 by refugees from Kentucky and Indiana. Centerville is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Centerville's founders were immigrants who had fled religious persecution in their home country. They arrived in what is now Centerville on December 12, 1868, and started to build a community that would become one of the most influential communities in Dayton. By 1870, they had erected a small wooden church and began to make plans for a more permanent structure. In 1871, they hired John Smeaton as their first municipal engineer and began to design their new town hall and courthouse. The construction process was difficult due to lack of funds but it finally finished in 1872 after 4 years of hard work. With its new courthouse and town hall, Centerville quickly became one of the most important towns in Dayton. It also became an important center for education because it housed both the Dayton Normal School (now known as The University of Dayton) and Youngstown State Teachers College (now known as Duquesne University). The settlement continued to grow throughout the late 19th century despite various challenges such as political instability which led to fires that damaged many homes; floods that destroyed crops; economic recession which caused numerous job losses; or railroads bypassing Centerville which made it difficult for businesses to stay afloat. Despite these difficulties, Centerville kept growing until it reached its peak population size of 3,500 people around 1920 when World War I interrupted development growth again.

Centerville was founded in 1814 by General Marcellus Barnes, who led a brigade of cavalry against the Shawnee. The city was named for Barnes and is located on the banks of the Scioto River. Centerville became a town in 1837 and was chartered as a village in 1851. It became an incorporated municipality in 1903.
