Fairview Park is a community in the township of Fairview, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The park was founded in 1875 as a small open-air farmstead on what is now Garfield Boulevard. A donation from James Kinsley allowed for its initial construction and it became a public recreation area in 1906. In 1936, Fairview Park was annexed by the Township of Fairview and became an independent community with its own police department and library. The Community Hall also served as both municipal offices and a meeting place for the neighborhood association until it burned down in 1984. In 1990, Fairview Park regained its independence after being united with nearby Westlake Village to form the Cleveland suburb of Lyndhurst. In 2002, Lyndhurst merged into Cleveland's city limits and Fairview Park lost its autonomy again; however, it remains included within Cleveland's overall statistical area. In 2013, plans were announced to redevelop the park into luxury housing with an accompanying sports stadium that would be used mostly for American football games. However, due to opposition from residents who fear increased traffic and development near their homes, those plans were scrapped later that year; instead, work began on developing another major development adjacent to the park which would include commercial space and single-family homes: Greenpoint Landing.[1]

When Fairview Park was first developed it was the most advanced agricultural development in Ohio. The land at this location had been purchase by George Crowe, a wealthy man from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1814. Crowe decided to develop the land into a country estate that would provide educational opportunities for his children and others who desired them. Fairview Park contained nine acres of forested land and thirty-six acres of farmable land. There were three buildings on the estate - a mill, a house, and an outhouse. A barn and four horses were also used on the property. In 1827, Mr. Crowe's son John Crouch purchased additional acreage which doubled the size of Fairview Park to its present size. John Crowe died in 1837 and his son assumed management of the park. He continued to improve upon the estate until his death in 1865. During John Crowe's time as manager of Fairview Park there were many changes that took place within Ohio society including abolitionism, women's rights, child labor laws, and other important issues that affected agriculture at that time. While John Crowe may not have been responsible for all of these changes himself he did play an important role in their progression throughthe years and is considered one of Ohio's earliest farmers
The first fair in Fairview Park was held on May 10, 1851. The fair was organized by the Fireman's Relief Society and was dedicated to honoring local firefighters.
