In 1916, Mr. & Mrs. Aileen Duffield purchased a house on North Main Street from Mr.— who had owned it since 1874—and started living there full-time asknife owners/sellers/traders under the name “Duffield Bros./ daggers and swordsmithing shop”[1]. The Duffield family operated their business until 1978 when they sold it all together to Gartner Cutlery Co., Incorporated (now Gartner). Fairview Park, Ohio is an unincorporated community in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. It is located on the east side of Fairview Township and west of the village of Fairfield. The population was 1,735 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what would become Fairview Park was David Fenton in 1801. He founded a gristmill that still stands today on the banks of the Scioto River. The mill was operated by Fenton and his son until it burned down in 1806. A new mill was built by John Peebles in 1807 but it also burned down two years later. In 1812, residents of Fairview Township formed a committee to plat their township and establish a town site on what is now fairview park land adjacent to their township line. That same year, they voted to name their new town "FairVIEW PARK". The original town meeting house still stands today and serves as the municipality's official seat from its creation until 1903 when it moved to its current location across from the high school. The first post office at FairVIEW PARK was established on October 15, 1814; it continued serving until December 14, 1911. During World War I, FairVIEW PARK served as a campground for American troops stationed around Lucas County. After hostilities ceased in 1918, many of these troops returned home but some decided to stay and create businesses or build homes in what would become known as "the old town." This period saw rapid growth as more people arrived and more houses were built while also becoming increasingly commercialized with small shops opening up along with churches and other civic organizations being established during this time such as Rotary Club #2 which met there beginning in 1915). In 1922-1923 construction began on what would become known as "the new town" which included much larger blocks of land than had been available before with several large buildings being erected including First National Bank (now Wells Fargo) followed by various restaurants/bars/stores before finally becoming residential withSingle family homes starting popping up beginning around 1955 largely thanks to developers like Edwin Jelinek who took advantage of zoning changes made during Eisenhower's presidency that allowed for wide variety of housing products without having to go through government approval processes again making development possible outside traditional neighborhoods). Captain Knowles donated 8 acres (3 ha) to the city for use as a town square and market place called Knowles Square. In 1853, Mayor James Denny recommended that Fairview be renamed "Fairview Park" in honor of Sir Fairfield Osborn, an Englishman who had given land to Cleveland for its incorporation as a municipality in 1903. The park has been home to many different types of events over its history; ranging from plays and concerts to picnics and ball games. Many famous people have visited or resided within its boundaries; including President Franklin D Roosevelt, basketball player Julius Erving, rock musician Jimi Hendrix and actor Robert DeNiro. In 1978-79, FairVIEW PARK was awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO due to its unique cultural significance.[1]
