The Forest Park Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1892. The club sponsored rifle, pistol, and shotgun matches. In 1912 the club developed a shooting range at its clubhouse. The first competitions were held there. In 1916 the club purchased land east of the current clubhouse to build a new facility. The first competition at the new facility was held in November of that year. In 1930 the club adopted a resolution designating October as National Rifle Association (NRA) Shooting Month in Forest Park. That year, NRA officials hosted a national meeting in Forest Park to discuss problems with gun control laws in Ohio and other states. that meeting included representatives from several American cities with large NRA memberships including Cleveland, Cincinnati, Akron, Toledo, and Columbus. In 1939 the club built an addition to its clubhouse which became known as “The Prodigy” because it had been designed by Professor John Atherton of Yale University who also designed many other famous buildings such as Yale’s Storrs Hall and New Haven’s Branford Courthouse. Each September since then, NRA Annual Meeting has taken place at The Prodigy where decisions about membership policies are made; this year will be no different than last years except for one important change- now Delegates attend meetings instead of just single vote members like previous years

Forest Park is a city in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Forest Park were farmers who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1800. A post office was established here on October 12, 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on December 3, 1903. The original town site was located east of present-day Forest Park along the Scioto River. The city of Dayton annexed what is now Forest Park on November 16, 1907. As a result of this annexation, much of the eastern half of Forest Park became part of the new city limits while much of the western half continued as part of rural Butler County. In 1916 and 1917, when Dayton annexed other portions of Butler County to form Greater Dayton, Forest Park retained its southeastern portion which became known as "northwest corner". On February 14 and 15, 1924 respectively, Mayor John Treadaway dedicated two large parks within the boundaries of present-day Forest Park: Varsity Field (now home to Wright State University) and Northwood Playground (now home to Miami University). In 1951 a referendum resulted in adoption by voters of a charter amendment establishing ForrestPark Municipal Services District No. 1 which would provide for Parks & Recreation services within the city limits as well as maintenance and improvement projects for City Hall & other municipal facilities across all sections including northeast corner where northwood playground now stands

A few years later in 1938 when NRA first published its "Handgun Manual," it included instructions on how to properly wear shooter's protective glasses while using a handgun grip/firearm training class exercise at an NRA match facility in Long Island City., New York

The first white settlement in Forest Park, Ohio was in 1814. The town was named after a tract of land that had been granted to John Wilkinson by the federal government. In 1815, Wilkinson built a sawmill on the Scioto River and started to cultivate the land. He also developed a farming business. The town grew quickly, and by 1825, it had a population of about 50 people. In 1829, Wilkinson sold his farm to James Broughton. Broughton began to develop the property into a large forest park. He planted trees and started to build roads and trails for the community. Broughton also provided free firewood for local residents. His donations helped make Forest Park one of the most popular communities in Ohio. By 1870,Forest Park had a population of about 1,500 people. It continued to grow rapidly, and by 1880 it had reached 3,000 people. The community became known for its wide variety of products and services- from grocery stores to health clinics-and its closeknit relationship with its surrounding communities.
