Galion, Ohio is a city in the Geauga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,828 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Geauga County. The first person to settle Galion was Nicholas Ladd who built a cabin on what is now US Route 219 in 1812. Over time other pioneers arrived and founded businesses and schools in Galion. The first post office was established in 1817. In 1836, Galion became an incorporated village with a government led by a Board of Trustees composed of citizens from among those who lived and operated businesses within its limits. On July 1, 1907, Galion became part of the new Ulysses S. Grant National Park system as part of the Western Reserve Bicentennial Celebration which included all 54 counties in Ohio that had been part of the Union during the Civil War including geauga county In 1959, President Eisenhower designated Galion as headquarters for Operation Neptune's Spear which was designed to disarm North Korea following their launch of an attempted nuclear weapons test. As one result many businesses closed and most residents lost their jobs but they have since regained some level of stability and have seen growth according to Forbes magazine's list of "America's Best Places To Work" for 2017-2018

Galion, Ohio is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. Galion is located in the eastern part of the county and is bordered to the south by Lorain Township, to the east by Strongsville Township and to the north by Ashtabula Township. It lies on a small peninsula that forms part of Lake Erie. The townsite that includes modern-day Galion was first surveyed in 1796 by Major James Wilkinson. The village of Galion was founded in 1812 by Captain John Fisk and his wife Sarah Beecham as a trading post on what is now State Road 7. In 1815, Captain Fisk granted land near present-day Galion to Jacob Swartzenden for £100 ($16AUD). On April 10, 1817, during the Second Seminole War (1825–1829), American troops burned down Swartzenden's house at present-day Main Street and storehouse there after he refused to give up his weapons. In 1847, three years after western Cuyahoga County was organized as Ohio Territory, Captain Amos Kendall divided much of what are now Chardon Township into two parts – Kendall township and New Hudson township – for agricultural purposes only. He named one half of this new township "Galion" after his friend Amos Kendall himself while the other half became known as "Swartzenden". Today most residents within these original two townships identified with either Kendall or New Hudson Township when they were asked their name for town status at local government meetings during their lifetimes. One resident from early days until about 1920 who lived on Agricultural Drive today remembers watching swarms of bees fly over her home during Apalachicola summertime while she cooked dinner using open flame ovens set atop large galvanized iron pots heated with charcoal which provided heat through natural gas burning stoves inside them - an activity which still takes place today outside many homes across northeast Ohio communities where open flames are used instead of ovens or stovetops due to concerns about possible fire dangers associated with these types of fires!galionsweets@gmail.com
Galion was founded in 1812 by General James Wilkinson. The city was named after a local falcon, Galion, which the general killed while hunting in the area. In 1831, Galion became part of the new state of Ohio and it remained an agricultural community until the late 1800s. During that time, the city developed into a center for manufacturing and agriculture. In 1902, Galion was renamed Dayton after Cincinnati's mayor at the time, George W. Dayton.
