Galion, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 11,816 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern border of Lucas County and is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The city has a rich history dating back to 1812 when it was founded as a port town on the Great Lakes by General George Washington and his army during his campaign against France. In 1836, Galion became one of two cities in Ohio to be annexed by Cleveland, making it an incorporated municipality with its own government and police force. The City Council moved from downtown to their present location on Euclid Avenue in 1898. The Galion community began developing around 1800 as a result of early landowner investments in eastern Indiana Territory that lay along what is now the Stroudsburg-Galion corridor and Erie Canal National Historic Trail route; these areas were then developed for agricultural production with rail service connecting them quickly for shipment to markets around Chicago or Detroit. By 1830, many homes had been built and business operations had begun including: dry goods store, millinery shop, wagon wheel factory (later absorbed into nearby Mayfair), salt works (in partnership with Canonsburg Works Co.), grocery store (later acquired by Wigand's grocery chain), post office (established 1837), Masonic Lodge #1 (founded 1793), first Methodist Episcopal Church (1847) and First Baptist Church (1851). In 1872–73 three men who would become known collectively as "The Three Musketeers" – Nathan Bedford Forrest, James Meredith and William McKinney – came through central Ohio on their way to Cincinnati where they were elected sheriff and mayor respectively; while in Galion they spent time playing cards at local hotel before going out fishing rod fishing near Clearwater Lake north of town site; after returning home they organized a meeting among fellow merchants at Mayo's Hotel which decided upon forming a company to build a canal from Toledo via Miami River junction westward across Preble Countyline into what would become Kentucky; this group also included future Congressman Thaddeus Stevens from western Pennsylvania serving as treasurer/manager/director/ representative etc.; later that year construction started but within months difficulty encountered with financing sourcesdinforcing some members not to proceed beyond initial plans due lack of assurances about final project outcome; Once issues had been resolved galions businessmen went ahead building an additional canal basin eastward from original main line until it met up with Miami River at Graftontownsite affording easier shipping access inland than previous routes east-west
The first scopes were made in the early 1600s. There was not much progress in optics until the 18th century when inventor Nicholas-Jacques Conte created a telescope with a two-inch aperture. In 1795, Frederic LeBlanc designed and built one of the world's first three-dimensional microscopes, which he used to study microscopic organisms. From this beginning, optic technology progressed rapidly and by 1850 had produced some of the most advanced telescopes and microscopes on the market.
The first scopes were built in China by the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and were used for hunting animals. The Arabs brought scopes to Baghdad in the ninth century, and these became the main type of instrument used for observation during the Middle Ages.
