Spotted scopes were a type of spotting scope that was developed in the early 1800s. These scopes were designed to be used while hunting game, and they consisted of a small mirror on the front side of the telescope that was used to view targets close up. The drawback to these scopes was their small size and relative expensiveness. However, they did play an important role in surveying areas for mineral rights and other exploration efforts during the 1800s.
The first microscopes were invented in 1765 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. They used a magnifying glass to view small objects up close. In 1837, Alfred Wegener developed a microscope that could see the 3-D structure of cells and tissues.
Garfield Heights, Ohio is a census-designated place in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Garfield Heights was named for General James Garfield who served as the 20th president of the United States from 1881 to 1884 and died after a brief illness in 1881. The community began as a small farming village located on what is now Garfield Heights Boulevard between Euclid Avenue and Brookline Boulevard. By 1910, there were only 229 residents living in Garfield Heights. However, over time it grew rapidly with the arrival of Interstate 667 and other transportation opportunities that made it an important industrial center for northwestern Ohio. The population reached its peak of 30,000 by 1920 but declined gradually until 1940 when it hit 27,912 due to World War II military production shortages and suburban growth within the city limits. In 1950 the city annexed much of nearby Strongsville which had beengrowing rapidly since 1923 as a result of oil discoveries in that area. As Strongsville became more populated than Garfield Heights, most people moved out of town while some chose to stay because they were offered tax breaks or easy access to government services such as health care and education opportunities that were not available in their original location. In 1960 most people living in Garfield Heights left for strongsmville also (the last major move before its annexation). Most businesses closed down during this time and many homes turned into apartments or trailers; however a few families continued to live in their homes until they passed away or decided to move again in recent years. However despite these efforts by those who wanted to keep Griffin Hills alive throughOUT SINCE THE LAST DECADE THERE HAS BEEN NO INTENSIVE BUSINESS OR FOLKS COMING HERE TO STAY AND INVESTMENT IS LIMITED TO A CLOSELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME LATER WHEN INTERNET ACCESS IS AVAILABLE
Garfield Heights is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Garfield Heights was first settled by early Dutch settlers in the 17th century and named for George Washington's father-in-law, General James Arbuthnot Garfield. The first store in the town was built by Jonas Armstrong in 1784. By 1800, there were seventeen stores in the village and one school. In 1811, John Richardson erected his mill on Upper Arlington Road (now State Route 9) just east of present-day Garfield Heights Drive. By 1830, there were twelve stores and two schools in the village; one school being funded by subscription from residents until it became an academy in 1836. In 1835, wagons carrying goods to Cleveland arrived at what is now Park View Cemetery through what is now Garfield Heights Drive; this event marked the beginning of commercial development within the limits of today's city limits. The following year saw construction of a new dam on West Side Lake that created fish hatchery operations on land near today's downtown square and also provided water for numerous homes and businesses along Wabash Avenue (now Erie Boulevard). These Hydraulic Dredging & Fish Hatchery Company activities are still ongoing to this day with over fifty years of history! The Village acquired its current name of "Garfield Heights" on December 14th, 1947 when it merged with neighboring town Maywood into one municipality under common government structure effective that date. On November 13th 1951 trustees voted 3-0 to change its name back to "Maywood". On January 1st 1959 – due to changes made by Mayor Harry Condon – all villages within Greater Cleveland Municipal Authority changed their names again becoming: "Garfield Heights", "Cleveland", "Akron", etcetera etcetera...thus ending City Of Cleveland municipal authority jurisdiction over all but two villages within that metropolitan area! As such any moves or decisions made by City Manager Harry Condon or any other member or official thereof were effectively overruled without notice or process - likely because they would not have been supported politically by those wielding power within GMA? At some point after 1961 annexation decisions concerning unincorporated areas had ceased altogether - meaning large tracts of suburban Akron proper lay beyond our alleyways and rooftops?! What happened to those people who contributed so much to our growth?
